No Official Time taken. Pace set by free-running Bahamian Art much too strong and despite the jockey trying to hang onto her she pulled around 5L clear from+1f to Hf. Jk Franny Norton probably on his first ride back having badly broken his lower leg late in 2013 when a Johnston 2yo reared over onto him. You would think he might be asking the trainer whether a bit more 'control' could be put into them at home. Field spread over 20L after 2F although the 3R at a usable distance back from the leader and the two travelling best on the inside in that 3R group finished 1st & 2nd..Racing on the rail seemed a real advantage. Buccaneers Vault solid size in context and a typical Dods early FTO in being fit enough to see the race out and just knowing enough to win if the race breaks up a bit. As this one did with BArt's efforts. Had to wait for gap on rail which allowed Realtra to go to the lead ins-1f having made her move around the Fading BA & PS. But, Realtra pricking ears and head up when in front which allowed BVault to get the distance back to head her late. Dods FTO winners have a moderate record of improving from debut. Realtra not looking like a 'Lilys Angel' (won same race FTO for same connections) but obviously ok for Auction race level. Red Connect a typical McCabe small one but showed enough with his effort in the last 2f to suggest he can compete to win a weak auction race. Penalty Scorer a free runner on debut then not seeing out the flat 5f at RDCR STO. Similar run here in being free running enough to race alone in 2nd behind the berserk leader and probably lasting longer than expected on this stiffer track. Ought to win something as he develops but probably Seller/Claimer or an OR50s Nursery. Bahamian Art looked a bulky type of her sire and passed onto an owner who seems to have the influence (with Channon & Johnston) to have the usable cheap yearling buys passed onto him once ability has been identified. Ran too free here by a long margin and an ok response when joined towards the last 1f. Ought to be Open Maiden level but this another negative for a trainer who gets well above the average of 'Lost Debuts'. Sportlobster had looked below Open Maiden level on FTO & this more his level. But, never got going from a wide draw and Kingscote driving him along most of the way. Racing widest on the track to add to the problems as well as being bumped as Bahango veered left around halfway. A tame fade even so and ran as somthing amiss. Vague interest in Upward Trend as a mid-50s developer but was that late progress just running up a hard strip on the rail to get onto the back of tired horses. More interest in Bahango ridden by Fallon for the Stubbs' stable. As often the case Fallon more interested in doing what he wanted than getting involved in the race. Stable turn out a lot of fizzy and free-running horses and Bahango too free here. Which meant Fallon got into a prolonged battle with him, wide of the track, from early on which culminated with him having to veer left on the horse around Hf to stop running into the back of the horses in front. This hampered On Appro & Sportlobster. Fallon then mildly asked for some effort in the last 2f before easing him early. Early debuts for stable usually competitive in Auction races, at least, and develop ok with racing. This run doesn't reflect his ability but a caveat in checking his size which looked smaller than usual. |
