GFG from GGF on Decs with 1mm rain Overnight. Rail Out from 4.5f out to 2.5f out adding 7yds to the Race Distance. Stiff WSW Wind = 3/4+ Headwind on the Ridge ans 1/2+ Headwind in the last 2.5f. The Dapper Tapper a later foal from a Dam most must have given up on. The last winner she produced was foaled in 2001 and the last one to make it to the racecourse foaled 2004. TDT looks a small and comapct on in the gather zone of his breeze. Then does a slow and hesistant breeze because he looks green and later overawed. Starts climbing in font and getting unbalanced when asked to start the gallop. Then in the 2nd 1F gets overawed and starts moving sowly and hanging left and jk leaves it. Fades by the end. Lady Ballantrae looks a bit bigger than TDT on her breeze video (on the same day as TDT) and doesn't hang left. But, hard to see any positives beyond that to make her worth 140% more. Looking mentally young and weak front. Never looks fully balanced in the breeze and one paced until an early fade. The ground looks loose and cut-up as an excuse. Along with RIPN a puzzling start to the day. Leave Barchan out of the story here and the results makes sense. Hannons target two who are below Open Maiden level at a BTON maiden to find a winnable race. Without looking better class in the context of the race those two manage to get 1st & 3rd but with the race finishing in a heap and in a relatively slow time. The Dapper Tapper running more competently and still small but showing what he can do but low level form. A Godophin 2nd string in Pinter running just so-so after a Lost Debut and Ajtebi riding and rarely used by Godolphin now with the trainer's able to choose any jk they like. Offshore supported a bit but still looking a bit too fizzy and otherwise preoccupied to put a race together but staying on ok at the finish in the heap. Add in Barchan and some real changes to be made to the current impressions and views. Barchan looking a good type on debut then fading early but not fit enough and Appleby not doing strong FTOs anyway. The STOs have been ready but a worry over why Barchan is at BTON? For the firmer going or because they think he has a hole in him? In recent years Godolphin have sent some 80+ ones here won with one in 2013 that won a nursery off 74. As with Star Citizen the previous day Barchan looking more like a ready and perhaps slightly over-wound horse here compared to the underdone FTO. Tight and sweating at times. Stumbling at the break but recovering quickly and running too free in front. Even given that he folded and faded tamely (unlike SCitizen who ran on eyeballs out). Looking back at the FTO picture his size was probably misjudged and while looking bulkier here he didn't look a bigger fame. If bothered about the Market you would wonder why Barchan wasn't odds-on here. Needs checking again and updating the view on Barchan. Also worth seeing how the Appleby STOs develop from here. |
