G as on Decs. Watered overnight but no details given. Dream Approval smaller to small and a bit upright in front. Does an unremarkable straight breeze and finishes the breeze off. Looks usable at the level her size limits her to. Worth recording Hannon had 6 runners on the day spread across 4 races and won all four races with the other two runner being the runner-up to the stablemate. In the context of this Auction race one of the notable things the Hannons do well is placing horses in the right level races. Since they have more than 200 x 2yos and the overall population in a season at present around 2,500 they have between 8-9% of all 2yos and buy all types so they can compete in all races. Because they buy so well their distribution of abilities across the 200+ is higher than the distribution in the whole population. Which presumably means they can rank their 2yos at home, against each other in the current crop and against their vast experience. They can then map that distribution onto the available races and get the results. In this race they had chosen two sub-75 ones that they know will struggle to win an Open Maiden. But they are both around 70 and capable in this sort of grade. It's impressive to watch. Race run at an Average pace at most and perhaps slower with a bit of a lull around halfway when those in 2-3R bunched up and bumped forward a bit. With jks on the 3 in the leading line at 2F out each waiting for another to kick off the sprint the race ended up being a bit less than a 1.5f kick at the finish of the jog. The Hannon pair slightly different types with Step To The Shears a bit taller and longer but lighter build and L'Etacq a bit bulkir but smaller and not well made behind. Probably little between them here but STTS get a comfortably run down the outside and able to make his effort to order. L''Etacq drawn next to the rail and ended up blocked in there which meant having to switch out right in stages to eventually make an effort wide away from the rail. Made a similar effort or perhaps a bit better than STTS. But both will nursery types and check how their ORs match up with the PRev. What to make of Twin Turbo Look at the VP pictures and he looks like he is in the wrong race. A bit front heavy perhaps but a size bigger and more quality than even the Hannon pair. Better in PRev here than FTO VRev suggested. FTO TT clueless and then running free before producing a solid effort and then a bad fade. When he was in the lead here you would have known it was a MaJo 2yo without knowing. Breastgirth frothing up the sweat. head held awkwardly and to the left and rolling as he galloped. Looking a bit surprised by the whole thing but responding by going a bit too free in front. Seemed to be going part sideways on the same lead for most of the first 5f and looking a bit wild doing it. STTS also head left for most of the race but racing balanced and in control. As at CARL on debut TT then got unbalanced when asked to make his effort then making a similar one to the first two but cut-off on the rail. Should be 75+ but is his movement behind hampered by something being too 'tight' and stiff? If he can get straighted out he should be able to perform well above what his first 2 runs have shown. Gamesters Lad every chance but outpaced by the first 3 when the final efforts went and lacks a kick and mid 60s of some sort. Red Rebel very green through the race and losing ground at various times because of that. Jk persisted for full last 2F and still getting some response late on. Ok for 60s when he wises up. The Dapper Tapper small and his FTO 2nd not worth much (barely solid seller form) in a messy BTON race. Too short a price here and another trainer 2yo to regress STO - which she gets notably more of than most trainers. Seemed to be just blown away by the relatively bigger and better ones. Dream Approval green but went through the race like he had more to show than he was able, or allowed, to do here. Might be usable late 50s. Magic Mac a bit smaller and went less well though the race and then the jk did nothing for the last 1f+ while trying to look as if he was. |
