SUMMARY
Interesting & Informative race where a number of form lines brought together and the Paddock Review and the Race Video show up a lot of the Story. Not a lot of judging fine margins, but some clear visible difference.

Escalating one of the few homebred for Juddmonte that Abdulla has entrusted to the 'wayward' Pat Eddery. Most have been obvious low level material. Esclating seems a bit better than that and stood out in the Paddock Review by @hughonthehill as the biggest and best type on show. Watch the Video and the same things shows up. It looks like the 'boss' forcing his way to the lead past some smaller horses and, having been allowed to control the race in front to suit himself, able to produce the strongest kick in the HS. If only all races were as easy to judge, and ran to the script. Easclating the one horse in the Brocklesby who finished in the ruck but looked possible Open Maiden material. Not fit enough to finish the race off there but better here and on a faster surface. Eddery tried the same route with Marvellino in 2012 who was in the ruck at DONC as a hyped near favourite then ran very well STO in 2nd in a KTNA maiden in April. He was small with no scope and ended up a 2yo maiden in the OR60s. Esclating different to that and has some scope and bulk.

Interesting to note how the Brocklesby is 'working out'. The 2nd & 3rd have won low level Auction & Maiden events but look mid OR70s ab with low scope. The 4th looked a small zippy filly who needed to win 'now' and has been blown away by bigger types on a fast & flat 5f Conds event. 5th & 6th have placed in moderate Northen races and clearly sub-70s. Escalating was 7th and showed here he was the real 'lurker' in that ruck. Those in 6th+ looked a long tail of lesser types and the runs by the 8th, 9th & 12th haven't changed that view.

Escalating, Be Bold & King Crimson (L to R & Down) =

The three pictures show Escalating & King Crimson at KTNA and Be Bold 8 days earlier at NWBY. Be Bold ran as Hannon 2nd string in a race where that type are usually OR70s maiden winner types and sometimes a little better. In that race he seemed to run well enough to confirm that view making a solid forward effort in the last 2f before fading. His picture looks a bit 'light' for OR78 say but in deference to Hannon you think they would ssend him to the right level to win a maiden. But, which shows to some extent in the pictures, he was clearly a class below Escalating in size and build here and "lack some presence & depth". In the race he ran the same sort of way as FTO. Still a bit green and hanging but an ok effort in the HS but an early fade again then hanging. Looking at him you wonder if he is sub75 and might need to go to BTON. Or develop and grow up more.

King Crimson ran in the same NWBY maiden and looked a bit behind Be Bold in size but OR70+ and a ready type. He was too wound up in the preliminaries and the race at NWBY to show his ability. The picture from KTNA shows that he was still buzzy here although the 'prancing' is tightening him up and making him look better and a bit bigger. A more naroow and rangier type than Be Bold and unlike his own sire. King Crimson again way to energetic and free-runing in the race and ennded up pulling himself forward wide around the bend to be 2nd into the HS. A brief ok effort then he started moving poorly and then faded again. Clearly OR70+ if he can settle down and check whether he continues to develop physically. But, his behaviour means he isn't showing his full ability.

Colour Catcher the 3rd debut this week for Charlie Appleby and all three have run badly while looking clueless. Why would he be 2nd Fav? Godolphin early 5f debuts were always to be avoided when the reliable Suroor or the flaky Zarooni were in charge. Why trust a trainer with no record of getting early 2yos ready FTO and who has demonstrated earlier in the week he does not appear to know how? The Market Formers' lazy Cheat Sheets at work, presumably. Added to that if you look at Colour Catcher in the Paddock and he's a smaller and compact one. He's out because he's a ready 2yo lacking scope not because he's a better one that might beat solid STO runners on pure class.

Designate ought to be a solid one based on the connections but utterly clueless on debut to go with his physical set-up which doesn't look properly loose and rangy in Front. In Paddock Review he looks below the Escalating and Be Bold level and less good a mover than King Crimson. Still a bit green but again not really stretching out in the HS and fading early. Perhpas mid-60s or a little better if he ever moves more fluently.

The field completed by a pair of small ones with Mark's Whisper tiny but competent. Which meant she had a go at running with the bigger lads until the jockey's nerve left him on the turn to the HS and blown away by the superior power anyway.
