SUMMARY
As in this race, the final times recorded in the other races at the meeting indicate ground was notably firmer than the official 'Soft' description.

Declarations made on Good going. 17mm of rain during Thu and into early Fri am changed the going to Soft.

Hannon website wrt Flyball = "Our Town Moor raid starts with Flyball in the Brocklesby Stakes. We don't often have a runner in this race, but Flyball, who is owned by the Middleham Park team of Toormore fame, has been showing plenty of dash on the gallops, and he is by Proclamation, also the sire of Annunciation, who did Middleham proud last year."

A thin looking race on profile and two compact and 'Now' fillies in PAgain & MFlorence setting a stiff pace enough to pull the race apart into a competitive front 5 (1st four home + Escalating before Halfway). Both the fillies lack scope but showed enough to win early 5f races but probably with little relevance much past mid-season.

Flyball not good nor Fit enough FTO to travel with the fillies and driven before 2F out although did respond ok. Not a straight mover in front and ok 70+ and maiden winner but didn't show enough to suggest he can live up to the hype from the syndicate. See how he snaps together STO. Probably put the Changeover Point on Magic Florence but even PAgain not fully convincing and might end up in claimers.

Escalating ok for 70+ and not Fit enough on the day so faded notably. Eddery's Brocklesby record now stands at run 3 with one win by a Group class horse. The other two have been strongly backed and not even able to see the race out. In a generally low-key edition hard to get find much to be interested about in the tail of Garbage. Presumably there will be some OR60s winners to appear out of the ruck but nothing showing much promise. Some interest in checking how Penalty Scorer goes STO if he lands in a weak race. The first runner each year for the trainer tend to develop into winners. PS running too freely here and seemed ok size in a smaller group.

Cock Of The North an early season FTO winner like his full-sister and trainer Dixon having only his 3rd juvenile winner and the second FTO success. Over-prepared FTO and inconsistent development from debut seem to be his MO on his first two seasons work so interesting to see how long it takes for COTN to go over-the-top. STO?

Stewards' Enquiry report into Northgate Lad = "The Stewards held an enquiry following a report from the Veterinary Officer that NORTHGATE LAD (IRE), trained by Brian Ellison, could not be identified from its passport and therefore the colt could not run. They interviewed the trainer and the Veterinary Officer. Having heard their evidence the Stewards referred the matter to the British Horseracing Authority. "
