SUMMARY
GFG from GGF on Decs. 5mm of Watering but no date/time given.

Medium to Stiff Tailwind so Fast Conditions. Field raced Stands' Rail of Far Side Course.

Mix of types in the field. Burtonwood late in and rugged. Small but well built and neatly made. Ran a similar race here to his debut. Professional start and sitting ok in the leading line through the race. But unable to raise more than an average effort and ending up in an extended duel. He doesn't seem able to stretch out properly in front and only able to win by wearing down a filly from the same stable on her debut. Seems one to end up in Nurseries than able to go higher. The two horses he finished with FTO have been well beaten by a SWEL maiden winner and a middling newcomer to add to that view.

Clouds Rest looked below full fitness but ran well before a late fade. A natural and snappy mover and a professional attitude. Has grown well fom being a small yearling but stil below medium. Other positives mean she should be OR70+ and win a fillies maiden but probably lacking scope for this early zip to go higher beyond mid-season.

Celestial Vision the 8th debut for Dascombe in 2014 and after three unplaced runs the last 5 have produced 1 x win and 4 x 3rds. But, that masks the fact that all of the last 5 have looked green to various degrees and only the FTO winner ever looked likely to get into the race. CV a small one and some sort of OR60s Nurs type full term. A bit green here but he seemed to get behind as much because of lacking the size and power to go the quick pace. Got to a Volunteer 3rd late on by plugging on past a line of 3 horses who had got into the race and were fading back for various reasons.

Rose Of Kiev early into the PreP with Dr No & Muzarkash and the smallest of those 3 as a filly. But, looks an ok size and build for her purchase price. A bit fizzy in the prelims and somewhat free-running early to get into the leading line. Lacked the pace of the leading two when the pace was upped by the final efforts inside the last 2f. The started hanging left before fading. But ought to be ok for OR60s nursery over a bit further and a bit better type than CV.

Then into the interesting colts and the best type in the race was Dr No. A good size and length and well built with ok development potential. Some gripes in that he is still Up Behind and more babyish and spooky in attitude than the usual Hannon 'sheep'. But, the one you would want to take given a free pick and surely Hannon will get him rated OR80+. Ran an ok race for 3f+ in looking a bit green early but then travelling ok in behind the leaders on the rail. Did not seem able to pick on the going in the last 2F and clearly jk Dobbs was not getting the response he had been expecting. Dobbs raising the whip towards the last 1F but then backing off and just showing it to the horse as Dr No finally found a bit of balance and plugged on. Got unbalanced at times after in the last 2F and one of 5 who hung left at some point. Inclined to the view the going or track didn't allow him to pick-up properly and worth following STO.

Makin A Statement an interesting early runner for trainer Quinn and an expensive one. Quinn didn't used to get FTO winners but they have stated coming along in early season and the SPs have got shorter. As a general rule you would want to see his FTO runner 5/1 or under to think it will win on good ability and being put into the race (the odd one will win at longer SPs by 'accident' in weak races). Which meant the Market here seemed to know a lot about what to expect from MAS on the day. The Paddock told the same story with MAS looking flabby, green and 'down' attitude, and (if you like that sort of thing) the coat in low condition. Some bulk positive but not that neatly made and PRev said lower 70s type. So, not the better type and at least mildly ready the Profile rested on. Ran a similar race to Dr No in getting into 2R and following the pace ok but then unable to pick up on the ground. Ran alongside Dr No until jk Winston ('Wobbly') eased MAS in the last 0.5f. Another who seemed to get unbalanced and part stumble at times in the 4th 1f and also hanging left. Jk made a WTRB report to the stewards which suggested he thought the horse had got so unbalanced it had lost the organisation and timing in it's gallop. Presumably this was always planned as a 'Educational Debut' and see what the Market & Paddock says STO.

Meanwhile, what did John Hills have to recommend him as a new trainer for a lot of Shadwell juveniles? Other than having a father, 2 brothers and a half-brother who have done good work for Hamdan. Muzarkash another not tight for debut and mentally green. A lengthier and less well built type on some of the views and a size smalle than DR No. Another just getting over 70 perhaps. Soon got adrift in the race and Hanagan settled for getting him home in one pace adrift and hanging left. What was the plan, John?
