GFG from GFF on Decs. 9-11mm of Watering 'since Mon'. Interesting Breeze by Aprovado at the Sale. Medium & perhaps shorter but solid build & IP length. Just does a solid breeze without looking that fast nor having a kick. But competent & straight until a bit of Hang Left late but coming to the bend soon after that so not a problem. Most notable point seems to be the way he uses his action in Front. Very little Knee Action nor Leg Curl and almost looks like 'throwing' two straight Pendulums forward and back. Prob ok reach in front given that but seems to require him to keep a fast action going. Interesting to see how that works on concrete going uphill here. A complete contrast with Fast Charlie's Breeze Video at the Same sale. On the physical side a little more length and less bulk and not as well made as Aprovado. FC has a notable amount of knee action and visibly very different to Aprovado. FC also has a much faster action when he kicks into the Breeze and really does seem to change pace up as he gets going quickly. But then a pounding action on his front legs and how is that going to work on concrete? Because he started the 2F breeze with such a zip he is visibly creaking and tiring after 1F and comes apart during the 2nd 1f. Slower action hanging, etc. Hard to see him finishing an uphill 6f here off on that. What does he look like 2 months later? Third Time Lucky does his breeze at the early May Tattersalls Sale. In the gather he looks a smaller medium one (smaller?) of his sire with some length and looking a neat and ready type. To compare to the other two he is between their actions in front. Has a mild knee action and some 'dig in' curl and pull back. But, seems easy to see why he was retained for only 22,000gns and kept to be a Fahey partnership horse. F & B timing not looking smooth and leaning Right Handed as if he is just about to Veer that way any moment and head a bit to the left. This never improves and he does let go and hang right as he tires in the 2nd 1f. The looking scratchy in front as he comes to a stop. Has the shape to be a ready, neat, smaller one with some build if his movement has improved with experience. Jockey Mulrennan interviewed before racing at NEWC and said Aprovado was perhaps the best of Dod's 2yos and working well at home. Noted that Dods had more 2yos than usual in 2014. Also never asked about the current Tapegate he is involved in with Martin Dwyer as it seems hard to know who is most bent in the West of India Racing circuit. [Post VRev] = Race faster than the earlier Novice but this race an Average pace at most although with a full 2F sprint on the end. Hard to make ground in this race set-up and the quality can be judged by Indian Keys (off a soft time in the lead) & Diatomic being able to make similar efforts for 1.5f_ in the Sprint and set a Baseline to judge the others against. IKeys probabaly improving a little with racing and mid 60s of some sort & Diatomic hasn't shown form above the 50s level. A real 75+ one in the field ought to get past them and with some comfort. Also worth noting that to add to 4 x Left Hangers in the Novice race there were several looking uncomfortable on the going in this race too. Rough and hard in some places? Great Park a bit taller in the group but a bit lightly made. Had the advantage of running prominently and only producing a similar effort to her and getting to the lead late on by outstaying her. Late 60s into 70ish for this? Perhaps stay further. Another Meade FTO running competently. Third Time Lucky a bit green through the race amd making problems for himself because of that. Given a competent effort like GPark and a prominent run TTL would probably have competed to win. Instead a slowish break, running tooo freely and then taking time to get the message when the sprint started, Closing into a gap between IK & GP around 1f out but then squeezed back out of it when that pair rolled together. Might hae been in a photo finish but for that. But, not looking a 75 one even when more knowing. Danny O'Ruiarc the worst puller behind the pace so already behind when the sprint started. THen taking time to get going. In the context of the race pace a reasonable effort to make some progress but then an early fade. But, plenty to fix to show his usable 60s best. Aprovado continues to be an interesting story. The bulkiest in the field and the one with the scope to be 70+. But, hauled to the back in a dawdle so set a tough task. Making just a middling job of making some progress in the last 2f then his movement fell apart around 1f out, Hanging, getting unbalanced and losing ground then plain stumbling inside the last 1f and the jk stopped asking for any effort. Ok bulk but the question posed above about his movement still valid and were there some 'rough patches on the track? Not much intertest in those behind. The Card Players seemed to be showing some attitude issues before the fade that the trainer reported. Fast Charlie mostly running in line with his Breeze Video comments and no apparent promise. |
