GFF from GF on Decs. 12mm of Watering up to Tue. Light Rain falling at 07:00am and forecast to continue as showers through the day. Temp only 13DegC and a Medium ENE Wind and close to a Direct Tailwind. Ragged race for only 4 runners caused by Dettori not being able to hold the smaller filly Doomah when she started pulling if front. Letting her drift to centre track alone and opening up gaps back to the others and 7L+ F to B prob. With RP staying on the rail and JG also going the Centre track the 4 horses where at 4 four corners of a large Square around Halfway and all racing alone. Doomah then coming back across to RP & Hawkesbury after being head around 2.5f out. Hawkesbury a very promising debut and making an unusually good effort to get from the rear of that race. In line with that looking different Class (by 2 levels at least) from the other 3 here and the 3rd 'Different Class' runner in a race in 2 days (after Aktabantay & Magical Memory) to start at 'long' SPs given the mismatches. Hawkesbury cruising through the race and running freer in the last 1F than the jk wanted him to as he pulled clear. Would anything more have happened if Buick had let him go? Not a big powerhouse but solid size and build an balanced movement raising him to higher levels. Ought to be competitive at Group 3 level at least and 90+. Rest of the field looking like previous winners filling the time before nurseries start rather than 'needing' to be at Novice level. Russian Punch running competently & producing the 2nd best effort 2f out but smaller medium and lower 70s perhaps. Didn't see the 7f out and moving awkwardly inthe last 0.5f. Issue?. Doomah a bit smaller & less well built than RP and not convinving at out of 60s in tthe long term. Running too freely here but outpaced before 2f out anyway. Jumeirah Glory looking smaller to small against the fillies and compact. On the plus side depp in front and better build. But, not Open Maiden level. Laboured & moving awkwardly for most of the last 3F and the jk took some of that to be unwillingness. Look more like a horse feeling the firmer going or a physical niggle than a poor attitude from the outside looking on. |
