SUMMARY
GSS by Race Time. GS from GF after 4mm of Rain on Fri.

Rail moved out by a further 3yds from Fri to be 6yds out from 6f pole to 1f out. Race distance in 5f & 36yds & 20yds further than advertised..

Fahey SL piece = "We've got a few running over at Chester and I thought Steve Prescott won really well the other day at Haydock and he’s a horse we really like. There is always a danger that the Novice Stakes will come too quickly for him but he is so laid back, he seems to have taken everything in his stride. You never know for sure whether a horse will handle Chester but he’s got loads of pace so should be able to get a good position early. He’s quite a nice horse."

Good Stuff from both jk Kingscote & Showing Character. Unlike Spencer, Kingscote very reliable in FTO fast breaks and using Stall 1. Managed that here and able to control the race in the lead on the rail. Also a good effort from SC who looks a smaller but neatly made, balanced and zippy one with a notably fast action. Handled this technical course well and better than the two previous winners. Lookcs like a pur 5f one and size will probably limit him from going much higher.

Worth noting that Dascombe has now had 6 x FTO wins from 23 debuts so far. The SPs of the 6 range from 13/8 to 11/2 with 4 of the 5 x SPs at 3/1 or under among the FTO wins. FTO wins split as 2 x each of CHES, HYDK & RIPN with HYDK the 'usual' place for them since he moved to Cheshire. The FTO winners to have run again have all been at Conditions level of higher with none winning. Only one later winner from the 15 who didn't win FTO so far by another CHES debut.

Officially GSS with rain on the day and a lot of divots kicking up like the hooves were stripping a loose surface off. Steve Prescott never looking fully comfortable on the going and on the bends while SCharacter rattled around the bends like he didn't notice any loose surface. SP a little slow starting and ended up racing 1 Wide which is enough to get a horse beaten here in many circumstances. SP then adding to that by hanging right around halfway and then never looking balanced after that. Inclined to park this effort and would expect him to look better on a fast straight Course where he can get into a rhythm and keep rolling.

Indescribable run well here before on GSS but got a soft lead on the rail over 6f then. Drawn Wide here and a slow start and getting bumped meant no chance of getting to the lead with SC setting a solid pace. Indescribable never looking settled and balanced on this going with the pace set. Smaller than SP and another that needs a different set-up to show his best. Racing around a tight bend over 5f on loose ground very different to those he won in at YARM.
