G from GGF on Decs. 34mm of Rain in 6 days to Sun am & Watered on Fri am. CoC Rail Note = "There is a false rail in place, approximately 15 feet out from the permanent inside rail. This rails add approximately 12yds to the distance of all races.". Post Race Note from the Stewards as a WTRB = "Dane O’Neill, the rider of SON OF AFRICA, placed sixth of six, reported that he felt there was something amiss in the final furlong and thought it prudent to ease the colt down." On first re-viewing a somewhat baffling race. A slow time more in line with SHV going and a very light wind on the day. Despite the official 'Good' Going Description the Going Stick Reading of 7.1 less (i.e. easier) than when the CoC reported SHV (winner's time 81.07 & GStick 7.7) & GS (82.05 & 7.6) in 2012. Look back to the 82.05 time & it was Euxton Hall in the equivalent race and the Race Notes say the conditions more testing than 'GS' sounded. Look at this race and a Group spread over only 4L at Hf and not looking like a strong pace. But, why do the three leaders stop to a walk at various times during the last 1F to be overhauled by Pallister who got unbalanced at various times up the hill and driven along and 4th into the HS and lost tabs on the leading trio. Got up to lead late on by staying on in Centre Tracck past Dead horses in a slow time. Why is the 100/1 Strategic Order so close unless unless he is plugging on at his own pace and finds the others coming back top him. Inclined to read the race as the leading 3 going too hard in the last 2.5f and over-racing responding to each other. Their strong fades allowing a mixed-up result at the Finish that needs interpreting to some extent. A moderate level of form overall. |
