GGF as on Decs. 0.2mm Rain overnight. 10mm Watering Sun & further unspecified 'selective Watering Mon. Golden Spun's Breeze Video underwhelming. Trainer Smart does like a smaller and neat one and GS seems to be that mode. Some build posive but looking mentally young. Does a mostly straight breeze but not looking that quick and 'scuttling' kept coming to mind. Tired in the last 0.5F and hangs left. Left a negative feeling and he will have to have developed and grown up and unusual amount to be competitive FTO. For Interest = Record so far for 2yos owned by 'Qatar Racing' (Maroon Colours & Gold Braid) is 4 wins from 34 runs by 15 different horses. Not including horses they have bought in such as Cajoling who has been well beaten in 2 runs since purchase (for a presumably unrealistic high amount). Horses spread between 9 different trainers. Only Likely seeming real better class depending on your view of Mind Of Madness. Only one runner for the in-house (proto 'Godolphin'?) set-up of Olly Stevens. His 2yos well behind schedule. 3 of the 4 wins in SP range 13/2 to 10/1. 13 x runners at between Evens and 5/1 have seen just a Single Win at 11/8f. Pipe Bomb (an odd name to choose) another poor run to add to the pile. Their main Bloodstock Agent - David Redvers - tweeted after Royal Ascot that he was glad to get back to being a 'Gloucestershire Farmer' for a few days to get away from the pressure of a Major Meeting with no wins. It probably did not seem like this in the 'Brochure' for the al Thanis. Money can 'get' you everything (including World Cups) they may have thought. As the, currently barely visible in major races, Godolphin set-up has shown over many years just having more money than everyone else doesn't get you to the 'Top' in Horse Racing. It would be a good time for the al Thanis to sit down and have a good think about what is 'missing' in Horse Racing that just throwing money at it does not always 'fix'. Field racing in two banks of 3 with a mixed Pace set by Battleranger on the rail. Probably an average Pace as the positions got established then the leader slowed the pace after the first 1f. Which had the effect of causing each of the 3 in the 2R to be hard held by their jks after around 2F to avoid bumping into the horse in front of them. A lot of FFH anf getting unbalanced. Which meant the leading trio getting a soft time in the Lead and the 3 behind having other difficulties aside from giving the other 3 a head start. Pace upped a bit in the dip after Halfway and then the, barely visible, efforts starting to be made around the usual 2f out point. Surewecan racing settled in Lane 1 attending the Leader and getting an Easy Time overall. Travelling best to 2f out and seems to only have to make a Middling effort to get to the lead and hang to the rail. Pulling a bit clear of the others but not looking to have to be doing anything 'different' to achieve that. Just making his usual effort. Issues, greenness and hanging behind removing any worthwhile opposition. A final Result Shape where if you stick Surewecan 75+ & perhaps leak 80s then the gap back means the others are not Open Maiden level without a valid excuse on the day. A level set to revisit if the others start performing solidly 75 NTO. Battleranger down in trip having been given a quiet ride FTO. Able to get an Easy Time in the lead on the rail here. Upped the pace a bit before 2F out but unconvincingly and niggled along before 2f out himself. Unable to match the winner's effort 2f out and just a low level one himself and hanging right persistently and carrying others wider with him. Looked below 75 on the Effort made & perhaps 60s? Spring Offensive at a long SP for a a Fahey sprint debut and usually a negative sign for the 2yo to develop to be a winner. Unless, the FTO is in a strong race or another obvious issue (wide draw at CHES, slow learner) etc. For e.g. - 2013 FRAG by SP. A medium one and green here. Slow start, too free & unbalanced downhill. Low level effort last 2f and carried RH before the fade. Not 75 on this. Golden Spun a bit shorter & chunkier than SC. Similar run in many ways but with an earlier fade. Late 60s developer? Pipe Bomb a slightly slow start with Spencer & as Frank often does he mistimes the break. Kicks the horse to get going before the gates open so the horses braces forward then the gates open as he settles back and a slower start. But racing settled in the front rank and no excuse there. PB looking a bit unbalanced and Head Up from late on Downhill before Halfway.Driven along and a hesistant response hanging right before 2f out. Spencer using the whip at 2f out as he knows the horse is not making his full effort. Little response from the horse to that and an early fade. PB a low sung one but deep bodied and chunky and ought to be a strong sprinter. Trainer made a WTRB which we could take as the horse getting too Fizzy in the prelims and wasting energy. Watching PB from the end of the downhill section onwards it looked more feeling the ground or some sort of ouch-iness But, clearly performing well below his level. Sunhill Lodge Lady named for the trainer who has had far more success with getting bookings for Sunhill Lodge than getting 2yos winners so far in 2014. Useful diversification. SLL smallest in this field and left behind as the Pace increased. A bit more quickly than might have been expected which raises a niggle of the front 5 & this race might need pinning a bit higher on the absolute Rating scale. Inclined to let that prove itself, if it is the case, with more evidence. |
