S from G on Decs. 6mm of rain on Friday. with Showers forecast for the day. 5p/£1 Rule 4. Fahey in his pre-race SLife piece = "Grand Beauty makes her debut in the Maiden Stakes on the same card and is a homebred filly owned by Jaber Abdullah. She’s a good, hardy filly who would run well as she’s very tough and genuine." Race looked a Slow Pace for 3f followed by a 2f 'Sprint', or faster paced efforts given the slow ground. 1st two home plus Beacon abe to put 2-3L into the others with those efforts but Beacon's effort hidden by a late fade and then Hughes easing him. He lloked a solid 80+ type and fading just because running a bit too free and lacking full fitness? Also had some excuse with the problem in the stalls. Sea Wolf another fit enough FTO one for Dods and another debut win this year. A different type to Beacon and taller and rangier but less solid bulk. Tim Easterby has won a similar version of the race in 2012 with a FTO and Mattmu a good size but looking 'raw' and needing to develop. A slower paced race on testing ground probably helpful to him getting into it. Trainer Haggas won the same race in 2013 with the useful newcomer Haikbidiac but Roossey looking green in race and a lesser physical type than that one. Unable to match the other three's effort in the last 2F and Moore just jogged home. See how he develops STO. Mountain Man race widest which showed up a suspect action in Front and looked to get outpaced in the last 2F as that action was put under pressure. Trainer Shaun Harris had a filly run with some apparent promise in the race in 2012 but that one never won. Agadoo already entered for a seller the following Thursday and a 'problem' for the race with her in 3rd. Inclined to view it isn't worth much in performance terms and she was able to stay on past some 'tenderly handled' colts late on with her jockey fully active. Better horses behind and Agadoo one to be wary of attributing much to this 3rd. |
