SUMMARY
G at 06:30am from GGF on Decs but still raining and 7mm rain to that point.

Medium to Stiff Westerly Wind = 3/4+ Headwind in the HS.

Brokopondo 8th of 12 in a slowly run 6f maiden at the CURR on June 8th on debut. Open Maiden and looking smallest in the field and perhaps barely into the 50s. Seems flattered by an 8.5L beating given she XB'd to the rail which looked and advantage and just trundled on at her own pace to pass some faders out wide on the track and never remotely in the race. 6f run in a slow 79.1s with a visibly slow pace.

Fahey quote in his SLife piece = "We’ve two in the Maiden Auction Stakes at Beverley. Yukos Flyer needs to step up on her debut run and is one for nurseries. Handicaps may be the best chance for Flatcapper too although she has ability and would have a chance if this is just an ordinary race.".

Read race as a too Strong Pace with Flatcapper running a bit freely downhill & around the bend without going berserk & attended by Lucilla Aurelius until she hung left wide on turn to HS. That pair clear of the 2R. Lower quality and perhaps barley low 60s? at the front.

Which allowed some Deep Closing from the wide drawn pair of Alans Pride & Playboy having been hauled to the back from ok starts wide. AP & PBay making ground in HS in very different ways. Alans Pride making an effort wide in the CZ to get to 2nd by 2F out then just plugging on to eventually wear down Flatcapper. Playboy Bay much less straightforward than AP and would have won but for his various quirks. PB driven on the bend then taking time to get going in the HS. Showing a climbing action-2.5f as jk tries to get him to switch wide to make progress. Jk having to give a hard rd to get PBay to keep going & the horse a bit head up overall and also offering to hang right in behind others. PB hurdling a 'path' towards the last 1f that not other horse ever responds to. Witht he race folding back tohim PBay find he is close to challenging late & tries to hang behind AP but that doesn't work with AP slowing. In the late 50 yds you would say PB refused to go by to lead. .

Grand Proposal also looking a bit head up and hesitant when asked to make an effort 3F out. Either plain slow or some attitude and APride went past him in the CZone & GP only getting back to him by laboured plugging on.

Flatcapper's effort worth marking up and did best of the Pace despite still being held into the HS. Travelled a bit more smoothly than most in this low level field. Yukos Flyer in the MPR 2nd colours given a mixed ride by the jk. Getting a bit active when she was being a bit green & hesitant and losing ground but then the jk going quiet & some rocking horse stuff when she responded. Alongside PBay towards 2f out from behind into the HS with PB recalcitrant overall. But hanging right towards the last 1f and jk took this as the cue to pack in. Small & limited low level but can do better than showed here when more knowing.

Brokopondo a peculiar Irish raider coming across to an East Coast course. Slow start threw away and rail draw advantage but the way the race worked out in a good position at halfway off the pace. Failed to pick-up 2.5f out and then an early fade. Looking smaller to average size in this low level field. Why bother to come this far to a technical track with a small one?
