S from GF on Decs and has it has been for the Meetings on the previous 2 days after a heavy shower on Thu AM. 25mm of rain between 11:00am Fri & 06:30am on Sat am but still Soft. CoC Tellwright (obviously shifted to Tellwrong) getting more criticism for the way his Going Descriptions jump around as he had at the previous Meeting. Outer HS in use and different to the previous 2 days. The 7f races on Thu/Fri were run over a Race Distance of 6f 215yds (6.977 fur) and this one over 7f 57yds (7.259 fur). 42yds longer than the previous 2 days' '7f race. Medium WNW Wind = 3/4+ Headwind from the Left in the HS. Dire stuff for a 'Class 3' Nursery and what are trainers thinking of not running for the money? Race fell apart and the field walking home. If you have as many horses as Hannon and get them running relaxed & competently then some will fall into soft wins like this. Divine Law winning but only just wearing down a small one who was 10lbs out of the handicap (OH). DLaw on a daft OR76 and some sort of OR60s type but in a weak race here. He wil be ironed out off OR80 in an average handicap. Dragline up to 7f here and presumably the slower pace aiding the better effort here. Ran off OR56 but had an OR46 and will presumably be re-assesed into the low 60s? Which will be too high in a proper race. But, when even one of the 'Premier' Northern tracks put on this sort of duff race the 'sonething' will prob be out there to win. Jersey Bull also off 76 which is too high for him and just reflected he won an Open Maiden so HAS to be OR75 at least by Race Standardisation. Late 60s prob but running too freely here and hanging and fading early back from a break. Muqaawel looked 75+ on what he did on debut and looking a bigger one in that field. A bit of a worry he didn't stand out in this group. But, even given that he should have been able to compete to win giving 3lbs to 2 of the others with Dragline OH10 to complete the opposition. A disappointing run all round. Slow to get going and never really travelling int he race. Switched to rac widest int he HS but getting unbalanced, hanging and losing ground to 2f out as the final efforts started. Some laboued respons eint he last 1F and closing back a bit to the fading front pair late on. Running as if something not right but relative size here makes OR79 a look debatable in a solid nursery. See whether he looks 'fixed' & in better physical shape 3TO. Stewards' Enquiry Text = "The Stewards considered the running of MUQAAWEL (USA), ridden by Dane O’Neill and trained by Mark Johnston, which started favourite and finished third. They noted that the representative of the trainer could offer no explanation for the colt’s performance. They ordered MUQAAWEL (USA) to be routine tested.". |
