Strong to Stiff NNW Wind = 3/4+ Headwind in the HS. Mixed pace with Come Uppence & Secret Liaison lit up early after racing each other to get to the lead on the rail. Pair settled before Hf and allowed others to get back to them & form a 2R trio. Expensive Date a slow start and took time to really get going. Helped to the win by SL softened up by taking on CU to some extent. But, ED a bit taller, lengthier & rangier than SL & always looked likely to get to the neater, readier Secret Liaison at some point in the HS. Which left a 2 horse race between SL & ED & both already on the right sort of OR & ED has a bit more scope. SL a ready one lacking scope and will need a slightly below average Nurs to win off OR76 & always vulnerable to something with a bit more size despite her willing attitude & professionalism. OR likely to need to drop as WFA unwinds through the season? Come Uppence a bit taller than SL and around 70 and 74 in this field should have made him competitive. Back from a break but Evans' 2yos rarely fail through lack of fitness. On dbut looked like a 6f type but then has morphed into a free-running pacemaker from STO on. THis his 3rd run in the lead and has lost 4-3-4 places each time and fading earlier than usual here. Hung right on the home turn and never seemed to get going in the HS and jk Kirby still active into the last 1F with CU dropping out of the picture. A poor run and hasn't proved he stays 5f front running. Evans tends to fix these sorts by persistence and they win something eventually. At least his OR should drop off this. Midnight Destiny on her 4th run but still looking a bit green & hesitant and not seeing out 5f off the Shaw preparation. Put her with Hannon, or Ron Harris, and OR50s mark would seem of some interest. But, this trainer doesn't know how to win. Surrey Pink smallest and no interest and probably not even real OR50s. Text of the Two WTRB Reports = "Adam Kirby, the rider of COME UPPENCE, unplaced, reported that the gelding hung right. The Stewards ordered COME UPPENCE to be routine tested. Cam Hardie, the rider of SURREY PINK, placed fourth, reported that the filly had stumbled leaving the stalls. The trainer subsequently reported that SURREY PINK had pulled a front shoe off." |
