GF by Race Time. GFG from G on Decs. 21mm Rain Sat-Sun. 20p/£ Rule 4 Deduction. Not much to recommend in Kayo Koko's Breeze Video other than the state of the Turf. As Lot 2 in the sale with Lot 1 WD she seems to have got first go at chopping up divots off the turf. Other than that she's small and not a typical deep, compact Zebedee. A bit young & slightly Toy all round. Some knee action and a short range action but not quick. Gets very tired late on. [Post Race =] Another look at that Video. Looking for positives you would say the Breeze by Kayo Koko shows a balanced movement and perhaps the visual slowness partly down to being green. But, to take a different view, this was a sale were small ones like Total Demolition cost £90k so KK's £9k is only just above 'barrel scraping'. What has happened since mid-April (2months+ development) to make KK competitive here? Picture on the Duffield website fom just after the sale shows a small one, still up behind & a bit weak in front. Check how the development has gone. After a slow start to the season for Duffield this is the second season winner (both FTO) for Duffield after George Dryden on the 18th July. GD also a small 'Zebedee' who looks like a big puppy in his Stable picture. Mixed Story when looking at how Kayo Koko won. A stiff early pace uphill in the BS between the first 3 through Halfway certainly softened them up and the first two home were the effective midfield into the Bend at 6-7L+ back from the Leader. That is an unusual distance to Close from to win in any 6f race unless the Pace too strong. Checking this season's data of the 132 x 6f races with the Halfway LBL's noted, Kayo Koko's is the furthest behind the leader at Halfway of any of the winners. 132nd out of 132. Always likely to mean a strong pace when the 8th & last horse through Halfway, driven along and looking clueless, still manages to makes VTLs to the line. Which means a dismissive summary (also arse covering) would be that this was a broken race and a small one trundled through to win after the others had run themselves to a standstill. But Kayo Koko doing a lot more than that. Had closed onto the back of the 3 leaders into the HS and level with the leader at 2f out and led soon after. Relatively comfortably saw off Muhaarib Al Emarat who had the same opportunity as the winner. KK also looking bulky in the field and a balanced & straight mover. Upgraded the [Est] by 4 after the race because KK looks to have developed well from mid April and this not a 'Fluke'. But, worth being cautious not to go too far the other way and think she is a 75+ one yet. She was winning a flawed CATT maiden. Say, late 60s? and check PRev.. Summer Times running into some of the same problems as he did on debut at the track. Got involved in the pressing Lo3 uphill from the start and softened himself up a bit. Then a bit cumbersome on the bend but getting balanced well enough into the HS to be going forward on the rail. But, as on debut, that meant he went forward into a pocket towards 2F out as the first 2 home made their efforts with clear runs wide. Getting hampered in the pocket again cost 2L+ and then ST unable to find a gap to make his effort through with the pair of small fillies in front fading early off their Pace duel in the BS. When ST did get clear towards 1f out the race already gone unless he found an unusually strong effort. Made an ok, but short, effort and looking a bit cumbersome again and then rolled home with the jk not pressing him to try to nick 2nd off MAE. Given the effort KK made seems a bit unlikely he would have won with a clear run in the HS and a moderate 2/5f in retrospect. 70? In a race set up designed to allow deeper Closing Keen Move making ground and places from the highest point of the race turning into the bend. Like ST also got blocked on the Rail a touch in the HS and head right and not picking up smartly when a gap came. Still going forward at the line. Looking a smaller one in this field and plain small for 60k but neat enough and some bulk and ran a bit better than this result reads. Could be a Nursery developer lower 60s say but the trainer has not shown yet that he knows how to win other than by overpowering weak Northern races with horses he tried at Group level later. |
