Unusual Stiff- ENE Wind = Direct Headwind Downhill & 1/4+ Headwind from the Right in the HS. Poor quality race on Profile and looking worse than that on VRev. Bannister Bell small and compact and 50s perhaps (question over LTO [Est] on size here) and 7f not 'right' for his set-up. Saumur similarly small but with some range in front. But, with that pair disputing shorter price favouristism having achieved little in their previous runs and lacking the size to be interesting a Race Set-up crying out to go looking for 'something' with a bit more size at a too long Price. Toast Of Newbury a possibility as topweight and ran fine but fading late and not able to match Ragtime Dancer's effort into the HS anyway. RD some promise FTO and a 60s PRev rating. Some circumstantials in her favour since she made her debut in a race trainer Portman sponsored and he usually takes the best he has to that card (races also sponsored by his stable's sponsor). Ok size in this group and forget about the SPs not surprising at all that the bigger ones outlasted the small ones. A brief diversion into 'Pointless & Mindless Punditry' having mislaid the remote for a moment before the race. Boyce trapped in a Studio with a bumptious little chap who looks like the smug School Swot no-one liked. Neither had the remotest idea where to start with the race so talked about the Market instead, pontlessly. Boyce coming out with a sentence at one point = "I think Bannister Bell has done 'enough' to be favourite here"..Just DRIVEL. Not consulting the Market as a comparison to their own analysis but talking like guessing who will be favourite will 'get them through' until they stumble on a race they have some vague knowledge about. No hint of what 'enough' might amount to in Real World terms, and certainly never a number used. They quickly went back to doing what ATR like to do, showing adverts and doing a Preview of a race in Ireland which takes place 7 days later (with the Field and conditions entirely unknown). Enough to make anyone get up and turn the sound off - hands-on. Bannister Bell Getting an easy time sitting outside the leader to a slower Average Pace. Ok bulk but looking short & smaller running between Ragtime Dancer & Toast Of Newbury. BB going ok for most of the race until slightly hanging right on the bend to the HS. Not losing much ground but then slightly squeezed between RD & ToN early in the HS and the horse seemed to back out of the gap. Not looking tired but moderate response from BB after that although still 3rd/4th towards 1f out but hanging left a bit. Hard to know wether the lack of response in the last 1f was not staying, some physical issue or part packing it in. Jk made a WTRB saying BB 'Ran Flat' but he ran fine for 5f+ and seemed to be thinking about things from the turn (because of raing in the middle of a trio?). |
