Rail Well Out. Slow Pace to Halfway with field forming up into a rough line of 5 x pairs and a lot of pulling and jks working hard to hold their horses. Harlequin Striker upping the pace at Halfway which added some Pace Pressure and quickly detached the Last 3 to be stragglers with Muzarkash on the back of the Leading 6 with the jk quiet. Plymouth Sound much taller than HS and able to produce a better effort to win int he last 2f despite being a bit green and his run blocked into the last 2f. But, PS looking like a bigger horse able to pick off HS and go clear of the others just by his size. Crafty Choice a size bigger than HS and getting a Soft Time in the Leading Pair on the Rail. Seemed to be outpaced at 2F out and dropping back and Hughes quickly getting active and using the whip 1.5f out. CC looking mostly willing but showing a slowish action in front (lack range?) and looking a bit laboured in movement. Hughes thinking of easing into the last 1F and let the leading pair go but then seemed to look left and see the mass plugging on outside him and realised he had to keep going. Which meant he started niggling CC again and got the same plugging on at his own pace to save 4th and be challenging for 3rd and still going forward at the line. [This VRev done as part of catching up and the day before Crafty Choice running over 7f at BTON. The lack of pace to make a later race effort here would fit with going up in trip. The move to go to BTON by Hannon would suggest they recognise he is sub 75 and needs an easier Maiden to win. BTO may have an uphill finish late on but how does CC look of the downhill part of BTON? Cumbersome & lacking Pace? Odd to look back to April when CC was declared over 5f as First String in the important 5f Maiden at NWBY. An NR there because of being Lame and his and a long beak and 2 x 6f runs. In 214 Hannon talks CC up as = "ready to go now... strong & well put together...might go to RASCT". What has changed to make his Career make the change to be 'dropped' to BTON over 7f? What work and relative judging of horses is Hannon doing early on to select the 'better' ones & why does it sometimes go wrong? ] |
