GF from GGF on Decs. 10mm Watering since Fri. Rail Out into the HS to a Cutaway before 2f out = Eaxtra Distance = ?? Medium+ Westerly Wind = 3/4+ Headwind from the Left. Solid Pace for a 7.5f here with Manshaa running a touch Freely throughout Leading on the rail. Attended by Austin Friars & Saltarello as the 2R Pair. Manshaa upping the Pace around the Bend and only the 2R able to stay reasonably Close to the Leaders. SS able to sit Midfield ok but outpaced by the Pace upping around the Bend which Saltarello mostly responded to & SS only getting ahead by Fading less fully in the last 0.5f. Groor travelling ok to the Pace set and able to move to the lead before 2f out at his own Pace. When asked for his final effort inside the last 2f he did exactly the same as he had LTO at LEIC - Head held to the left and crabbing Right-handed at times. Unlike LEIC the effort he was able to make meant he did just enough to win although the hanging keeping Manshaa close to him and duelling until late on. Manshaa a similar size to Groor. Debt Free Dame back off a long break for Easterby and up 2.5f in trip. Given the way she ran the first Half of the race it would be surprising to be told that she beat any of the other horses. That she made a solid low level effort uphill in the HS and still seemed to have a bit left when eased in the last 1f would be really surprising. DFD a bit bigge than RTE/SS & Saltarello and seemed to be showing ok Promise here for usable 60s (say). If she were with, say, O'Meara youd would be very interested in her development. Still Of Some Interest but Mick Easterby is as good at bamboozling himself as everyone else. If you are well on in your 80s and trained a Classic winner before the majority of people around you were born you don't really care, you would think. |
