GF from GGF on Decs and GF the previous day with very fast times. Watered overnight. GF on both tracks but the Going Stick report says 8.7 on the round course & 7.9 on the Straight Course so they are clearly firrent to some extent. CoC report then makes a bid for the 'Worst Use of Averaging' in Racing by saying the 'Average' GStick reading is 8.3 = as wrong as you can be for BOTH Courses by using averaging incorrectly. Medium Westerly Wind = 1/2 to 3/4 Headwind from the Right in the HS. CoC quote = "Lower bend dolled out 5 yards from the 6 furlong marker to the 3 furlong marker in the straight increasing distances by 10 yards " Ahlan Emarati a volunteer 3rd over 5f at RASCT with a Spencer hold up ride behind a too strong pace. 3TO ran in Ireland in the 6f Group2 Railway Stakes ridden by Pat Smullen. Race developed into a dawdle doww the stands' rail with Kool Kompany allowed a spectacularly Easy time on the rail. AE a fast break wide then held back to sit 3rd 2Wd just over 1L behind KK. Looking smaller in the group but again rasing an effort a bit above his size. But, having got to clear 2nd chasing KK then fading later on as KK went clear. Nothing able to make ground from behind. KK went on to win the 5.5f Group 2 Prix Robert Papin from Strath Burn (tested positive for Morphine on his debut win in an ongoing, widespread, BHA investigation). Only a 5 runner field for that race with 2 trained by non-Top level names and C Maarek Head's runner last of 5. Kool Kompany beaten a long way in the Coventry Stakes before the Ir/Fr Group 2 wins and not obvious that he needed to 'improve' to win them. Highland Reel made his debut in a 7f LEOP maiden as second string to the Joseph O'B ridden U S Navy Seal (fin last as the 6/5f on his debut and not run since). HReel 2nd at 6/1 behind Dermot Weld trainer Tombelaine (12/1 from 8/1 and 2nd of 3 behind the AOB Gleneagles in the 7f Gp3 Tyros Stakes STO). HR looking a neat medium one on debut and hauled back to sit in 3R pair outside of the winner. HR green and taking time to get going in the HS. Also possible he lacked pace and looked better as the race went on. Good effort to go pas tthe field 1F ou and then rejoin Tombelaine who had found a clear path through the field while HR ran wide. JO'B ridden STO in an 8f maiden on July 1st at Gowran Parkand won as 8/15f. His runner-up beaten 12L having been 4th in the same 7f LEOP race on debut to HR's 2nd. The 2rd home a Bolger necomer Hall Of Fame who wnet on to beast the highly touted AOB John F Kennedy STO. Agan not really standing out for size but notably calm and professional. Goes well clear in the last 1f but again looking better the further he goes and what did the opposition amount to with Bolger's HoF running both too green and too free. Races a bit upright in front which can look a bit like vague attitiude and hanging left a bit late and not reacting to the whip then FFH a bit when asked to pull up. Interesting to see what he looks like held up in a 7f race at GDWD with a downhill HS. Enough Pace Pressure in the race to allow his Staying Quality to show through? |
