SUMMARY
GF as on Decs.

Picture of the Full Finish and then the Stragglers :-

Race Run 1.06s Slower than the Fillies' Maiden with the 9 x Males carrying 5lbs more here. Field racing Centre track and an Average Pace at most to Halfway with a Leading Line of 4 and 2 others close behind. Pace increased 2f out but Full Final Efforts prob delayed until 1.5f out. Even so, that enough to separate the 3 competitive ones from the others and the Winner from the placed horses. Given the Pace and the way the race played out the two notable faders from the front 6 at Halfway (Creative Genius & Red Majesty) need solid excuses to explain where they finished the race.

Speedy Move came into the race with OR74 having shown an improved run 3TO when hanging onto two bigger types for a long time at HYDK. VP picture shows him in excelent condition and looking like a horse who is 'thriving'. But, a shorter on although soildy built and does have some length to use (interesting to compare his Build & length to Skate (bulky but quite short & lack length) & Red Majesty. Always traveling best and a clear win here although the slower time a niggle. OR74 seems about right although he seems to have shown a bit more than that in the last two runs and perhaps ok for a bit above that in an ordinary Nursery while in top condition. Would feel the lack of size/scope would limit him in better Nurseries or Nov/Conds races.

Even having seen a picture of Skate from NWBY still not prepared for how 'small' he is (meaning short & compact). Some trainers would call him 'big' because he is deep bodied, bulky and strong within the small frame. Very fit and a notably relaxed & quiet one (you would be sure he is a 'Nice' horse in terms of being easy to deal with). But, if you like bigger horses with some range Skate ins't doing a lot for you. He looks terrific if you have got some heavy loads to shift in a cart (in a compact space). Acknowledging that he is strong and competent means looking at 60s rating but lack of size and range linited in terms of making athletic use of the poweer. Beaten comfortably by SM here which would make a fit with the winner being mid 70s (and may well get (not 'earn') a higher OR while in top nick).

Rio Ronaldo a different physical type to the first two little 'Bulls'. RR taller and less strongly made. Ran too free here and again not seeing out the 6f. But a solid effort to get from 2R to challenge SM at 1.5f out before that. Ought to be able to compete at 70+.

A gap back fom the first 3 who make a believable Shape to the finish of a solid 4TO horse beating two sub-75 but usable ones. Which would mean that even if you made the winner an OR85+ horse beating two 75ish ones (as Tester might do) then the 4th+ finisher have still performed poorly and not getting into the 50s. Are they all that bad?

Dear Bruin the only filly in the field and presumably balloted out of the Fillies' maiden. A small one but with some depth in front and more bulk than a Spearing typical 2yo and very expensive for him. Ran too free here and looks a trier overall and making the best of herself. But low to mid 50s.

Trainer McCabe has a raft of 'Red' prefixed 2yos for the Buckinghams in 2014.Red Unico the 5tth one to run and none have won yet and only Red Touch looking promising after debuts. RU what you would expect from a Malone/McCabe bought 2yo shorter with some bulk and a minor 'Boty' set up. Very fit for debut but looking a weak mover behind in the walk. A bit green in the race and some minor response in the penultimate 1f but very minor promise. 58 got written down.

Lopito De Vega a sweaty free-racer FTO and in line with that this run was only about teaching him to settle and trying to run a race. Mostly settled here but still just a low level effort before fading. Smaller medium but looking ligher build and very fit and running up a bit light and looking weaker in front. A worrier overall? Low 60s on presentation here.

Roman De Brut looking one of those horses who doesn't run up to the level that their size & build suggests. In good condition and ok bulk but 'something' not quite right with him. Looks an unathletic movement and lost ground here as soon as the pace upped. Prob lacking pace and didn't seem to fade and perhaps needs 7f+.

Interesting to compare the pictures of Creative Genius & SM and anyone would be able to say which was the better horse. CG prob a sim height but much more lihghlty made and underpowered. Got a softish lead here and a low level effort kept him 4th to into the last 1f but then fading. Prob usable 60s if he bulks up a bit.

And finally, what on earth is the plan for Qatar Racing? Running horses in 'odd' ways to finish as the last pair in middling maidens with no Racing Manager, no retained jks nor owners present? Do they have a 'Project Plan' they are working to or are they just signing cheques? Does anyone sit down with Redvers and ask how, in future, we can avoid spending £90,000 on the likes of Total Demolition? Unlikely, since although the participants are not able to acknowledge it, a lot of Agents' purchaes amount to dipping your hand into a Lucky Dip bag. Have enough goes and you are bound to pick a 'Nice' horse somewhere then stick that on the 'Buying Record' and forget the rest. Retrospective analysis of whether the methods & indicators used to select horses are 'working' (i.e. any worthwhile correlation between indicator and racehorse quality) doesn't get done. Just spend a lot of time pointing at Extortionist and avoid the others.

Total Demolition a smaller one and a less strong version of SM and also od Red Majesty. Usable 60s but has now run 3 x dreadful races. Is there some hidden story about TD's attitude. Catlin the jk here and gawd knows what his instructions were. Get him to the line as slowly and invisibly as possible? Grisly to watch.

In a race lacking much 75+ interest Red Majesty looked about the best type. A shorter but chunkily built one with some length and moves ok. But, compare him to SM and less fit, less good condition, not as relaxed and a bit green rather than professional. Another Ryan debut runner looking strong but a bit Fat & Unfit. Given that the first 4.5f of the race were ok promise. Running up with the pace but looking a bit green and not helped by sitting in a tight gap with CG leaning across him. Would like to have seen more of a promising effort in the last 1.5f and worrying to see the whip used in earnest 1.5f out as if RM not a trier. Then eased early to end up behind TD int he first colours. On size and build he ought to be able to get 75+ as a sprinter and track his development. Clearyl should be better than finishing at the back of the stragglers here.
