GS from G on Decs. 3mm of rain overnight. Defeat for Al Ghuwraiyahanother knock to the form of the NMKT Craven Meeting fillies' maiden. Didn't look a strong maiden with a heap finish but AG looked one of the more solid Open Maiden prospects. But, smaller than the winner here and unable to win despite being able to control pace and race from leading on the rail. Three runs form the NMKT race in Northern races this week with AG's defeat added to that of third home El Che (small and a suspect one). 7th at NKT was Granny Alice who managed to win at RDCR but in a poor quality limited maiden (limited by sales price and not a full 'Open' maiden). Still some better prospects to run from that NMKT race who looked better long term than their finishing positions but subsequent runs suggest low-mid 70s at front. Mambo Paradise probably the biggest in this field and a comfortable winner and having to wait for AG to roll of the rail to get a run and then going by her relatively quickly and a stronger finish. Typical for MaJo debuts to be hard to 'read'. Might occasionally win well but might not beat the ambulance, or anywhere in between no matter what the Profile looks like. Winstanley at a 'longer' SP for Fahey and not a better type just on that. Another smaller and neat one and similar to AG and running alongside her most of the way until fading a bit earlier giving her 5lbs. Another for Armstrong & Cheveley Park which looks like a Maiden winner at most for a lot of expense. A surprise to see Secret Friend so short in the Market and is TDE in a run of 'better' debuts? (Check). Pobably second biggest but looking less ready physically & mentally. Also running widest away from the rail which seems to often be a disadvantage. Able to make a similar effort to AG & Winstanley until fading earlier and an ok debut by trainer standards. |
