SUMMARY
GGF from G on Decs.

Fahey in his SL piece pre-race = "Diamond Creek and Billy Bond are our first runners on Saturday in the Maiden Auction [sic] Stakes. The former goes well and has a nice draw. She’s very genuine and I’d hope she’d run ok. Billy Bond has been quite backward and may want six furlongs but he’s ready to go now. I’d be delighted if he won – but also surprised if he finished in front of the filly."

Slow Time and odd race shape with leading 5 at halfway well away from 5 stragglers. Only mixing between those groups at the finish down to Dragline again some pace befoe Hf but fading early, as he had on debut. Not many changes in position Halfway to Final and a strong pace 'Time Trial' nature to the race with everything under pressure to go whatever pace they found themselves at by position early. Front of race must have folded back since no Deep Closers but adrift 5 not losing ground after halfway.

Looked like a better class horse in Captain Colby able to go the strong pace up front and still repel the later race effort of the smaller filly Denton Dawn (carrying 10lbs less than winner with App5) and them pulling away from the marker horse in Horsforth who is prob low 60s and broken by attending the pace. Nothing stood out behind and winner just better class in context.

[Aside] The last horse called Ubedizzy won the Abernant Stakes at NMKT in 1978 but then tried to savage his lad in the Winner's Enclosure (not a first offence) and was banned from racing in Britain and went off to Ireland. This Ubedizzy getting off to a bad start by refusing to go into the stalls. But everyone got out of it with all their fingers still in place.

Called a "Maiden Auction" in the race title but not an Auction race at all = Weights to usual WFS level. Race Conditions = "£5,000 guaranteed For 2yo sold or bought in as yearlings by public auction at 'specified sales', or as 2yo up to and including May 31st, 2014, £22000 or less before July 1st, 2013, or £25000 or less after June 30th, 2013 (The last sale to govern the price if sold more than once) Weights colts and geldings 9st 5lb, fillies 9st Entries 21 pay £ 25 Penalty value 1st £3,234.50 2nd £962.50 3rd £481.00 4th £240.50"
