S from HVS on Decs. 86mm rain from previous Sun to Thu. An edition of the race which reposes the question of whether having prize money spent on Conditions races (& Listed race before Royal Ascot) for 2yos is worthwhile. To this day a total of 282 juveniles have run (about 10% of the overall total) and a lot of those 'early types' lacking scope or plain poor athletes. This race would struggle without Hannon & Channon and the 2nd of those has not got going with his 2yos at all and Hannon mus have better fillies than Tiggy Wiggy She didn't stand out for size int his group but a bit bigger than Paddy Again and a bit more length. TW clearly has some precocious zip above her size but probably lacks scope and end the season low 80s & struggle to win at 3yo? TW has now zipped away from Evans limited ones on Polytrack and worn down this field but looks likely to be better in a faster test against bigger types. Mick Channon has a single win so far this year and that a daflt lucky win by a homebred he owns himself. He has run a lot of his, or his mate's, owner breds and looking at the list of 11 he ran before Exentricity it is hard to say any of them are real OR75 types (& not at 5f). Feels like we should be expecting a 'wave' of better debuts in the nest 2-3 weeks if he has any. Zuzinia an expensive one entered here but runs at WWCK the folowing day in a £10k Bonus race and check how she goes. Exentricity another 'Stable Bred' of some sort and the dam has gone to various Norman Court Stud Stallions (Piccolo, Imperial Dancer, Sixties Icon) but made a break for it and this one by Paco Boy. Another smaller one with some length and ran ok to track the average pace and then plug on at her pace and get throught o 2nd late on past the faders who had tried to run with TW. On the work video from March 18th she was in a 4 horse work group with Ar Colleen Aine, Juventas and Zuzinia. The work seemed to be set up to allow ACA and Exentricity to go pas tthe lead horse together late on and see how they go. Exentricity goes a bit more comfortably than ACA and that one has run twice and looked sub OR75 in placing in maidens. Juventas always off the back of that work gallop and background sound suggests asst trnr looking for whether she stayed on a bit late on. Juventas a volunteer 4th on debut in Open £10k mdn. Zuzinia was the other filly in the work and moved up with Exentricity 1F out but then held back last 0.5f to allow the two 'Paco Boy' homebreds to test each other out. Mylaporyous looking an ok size in this group and running a bit freely. In a slow race on soft ground which was supposed to be good for her but outpaced 2F out and rolling around and then fading-0.5f and veering back to the rail. Looks like she needs further and needs a check if she would be usable in Nurs in the OR60s. Paddy Again a smaller and compact one who has shown up well in early races down to precocity and competence. Her lack of size and scope always likely to catch up with her and it did here despite being in the race with smaller fillies. Travelled second best for 4f but didn't stay the last 1f. Consider than her win over a fast 5f at RDCR was done in 58.67s and she ran a time going on 7 seconds slower here. Another who should look better able to lead, and put pressure on others, in a faster 5f test. Low Cut Affair finished lame so her performance here might have been compromised. But, watch the firsr 1.5f of this race and she's the smallest, a scruffy mover and struggling to hang onto the others. One of those fillies for Evans where you look back at the result for an early season win and it looks ludicrous in late season. "How the hell did that happen?". Being able to answer those sort of questions with something a bit more detailed than a "She didn't train on" a worthwhile target. |
