G as on Decs. No Going Stick Report. Stiff Southerly Wind = mostly X-Wind from Left. Highclere Throughbred blurb wrt Designate and his STO run at KTNA = "Designate dwelt in the stalls on his next start which meant that he was unable to dictate the pace and still showed signs of greenness when racing around the home turn but stretched out readily in the home straight so hopefully the penny is beginning to drop with him." Eh? Were they watching the right horse? He never stretched out at all, readily or otherwise. Poor stuff. A race limited to Sires whose sales median is below £20,000. That need not be a a quality issue since is means horse costing any amount, say £100k and over can still take part and some of the lower priced horses might still be OR75+. The sales selection process being a long way from highly efficient. But, none of those items which can improve quality seemed to be here and left with a weak race won by a STO horse running competently on the rail. A lot of rolling around, going up and down on one spot and getting puffed out early behind. To add to a lengthy loading process where it seemed half the field or more were wasting nervous energy. Ivors Rebel some sort of usable 60s and that along with running competently saw him clear in the last 1F. Jersey Bull also running competently attending IR but smaller than that rival and basically overpowered by that 60s one. Designate looking in good condition and running competently but the note written above seems even more pertinent post race. Designate looking threatening 2F out but had already mildly hung right on Bath's mild curves and then hung right and did not stretch out in front again here and then fading. Whoever wrote the Highclere TB webpages was lying to his owners. Aevalon narrow bodied but ok Tall in context of field but a poor attitude on loading. Got to 2nd by trundling past the faders and trainer often has horses fit enough FTO and lack progression unless have real physical scope. The two FTOs with higher [Prf]s discountable before the race started and leaving an open, low quality, race which was likely to develop into the inelegant spectacle it was in the last 1F unless something was 'hiding'. Clampdown just plain too small. Ran competently & produced an effort but a limited one and fading after that. Divine Law just medium sized in the field and nothing to suggest he was the better type Hannon FTO wins often are. Added to that fundamental issue by taking ages to load and getting wound up. A slow start from wide and a bump and did not have the desire (nor the ability) to overcome all that. Thumper still leaves the question of why Qatar Racing are bothering with his type. Spencer here to ride and a wide draw. Another not looking any different in this field and a slow start from the widest draw and not looking sharp, nor tight enough, to compete and another 60s sort. The days of tight wound Cowell FTO wins seems long gone. Race Conditions = "£4,000 guaranteed For 2yo whose sire established one or more yearling sales in 2013 with a median price of not more than £20000 Weights colts and geldings 9st 5lb, fillies 9st Entries 22 pay £ 20 Penalty value 1st £2,587.60 2nd £770.00 3rd £384.80 4th £192.40" |
