S by Race Time. GF as on Decs.Torrential Rain Before Racing. Race Conditions specify this as a Maiden for Horses who have never run. Banditry's last Work Video from Sun 3rd woking witt the unraced 2yo Storytale (90k, Tabor owned by RVW) and the poor 3yo Almax acting as a lead horse. Slower pace work up the usual hill finish with Banditry & Storytale finishing off going on quite strongly together as Almax drops out moving scratchily. Banditry woking in a Hood & looking a touch smaller than Storytale. In 214 Bell compares Banditry as being a similar type to Berland (2nd on debut in lowerl level YARM maiden & won STO) for the same owner. Beach Samba bought at the Goresbridge Breeze Sale. Rider looking big on him in the Breeze Video and long leathers. Does a straight breeze looking a ready 2yo and ok pace. Picture on Dunlop website seems to show a smaller one and compact body. Stronger front than rear and looking to lack scope & 'complete' now. Godolphin jks = Buick (Emirates Skycargo, 1st Cols) & de Sousa (Hills And Dales, 2nd Cols). Buick & Kirby now seeming to be top of the list and Suroor not using Fallon any more. Just an Average pace past Halfway but solid Pace pressure given the comditions with the pace incresing soon after 3f out. A bit suspicious that the only 3 who finished the race off (1st 3 home) did so in a trio racing furthest over to the stands' side. Everything racing Centre Track & Wider from 2f+ out fading in order with Beach Samba doing best of the more prominent racers. [Update 21st Aug] Beach Samba & Acaster Malbis both running in a Class 2 maiden at YORK over 7f on the 22nd. Rewatching this race highlights how BS & AM ran very different races. Beach Samba getting a good break and always in the leading line and held and mostly racing settled. BS looking a natural and handling the surface well and skipping along. Sets a pace which has everything except Spiriting & Bartel niggled or driven along before 2f out. BS makes a good forward effort at 2f out but then stalling and fading back in the last 1f and overhauled by three Closers - 2 of whom had been struggling to go his pace to some extent. BS looking a medium one and just ordinary Power and doing a lot on his clean movement & efficiency. Which prompts an interesting question for his run at YORK. Will he look as smooth on firmer going? If he does then the fast conditions at YORK and a flat track might see him get loose on the lead and finish the race off (if the jk doesn't hold him up). But, if you like one with a bit more Power & scope isn't he the sort of 'Neat' type you will kick yourself for backing when he gets worn down by some bigger lad(s) late on (again). Acaster Malbis not a tall or rangy one either but deeper front and stronger built than BS , as you would expect from a Hannon buy. Wearing a cross noseband (XNB) which you would normally take as a sign of a free-runner and puller. Hughes in typical 'Teach to Settle' mode and holding AM straight out of the stalls and ending up 3R. Hughes switching to driving AM along by 3F out and lacking the natural zip and 2F effort of BS. But, stays on solidly with the others in the first 3 and looking more a stayer than BS. How much of the lack of zip/kick here from AM was soft ground and inexperience? If he is a 'stayer' then are very fast 7f conditions at YORK going to make him look a bit outpaced? Another thought from re-watching the Video is that Bartel travels better than AM & Gibeon and makes a better kick but had been hampered by both that pair then not quite staying as well in the last 0.5f. [Sep 5] Voice Control very Green and having to be niggled along for the whole of the first half of the race to hang onto the back of the Cent group. Driven soon after halfway as the pace upped and going off the back and losing a lot of ground to those involved int he finish. Some positive in gathering himself a bit towards the last 1F to run on though some faders without making any ground on the leaders. Late fade. Prob a solid build Medium. Steps up to 8f STO but seems possible he will still look green to some extent and lacking the better ability to overcome that (Check). |
