Bnedel the 12th 2yo to debut for Al Shaqab Raing in 2014. The previous 11 x FTOs have yielded 6 x 2nd places, 1 x 3rd, 2 x 4ths & the other pair 7th & 8th. 7 of the 11 have won so far and another 3 have shown a form level up to winning a maiden. 9 of the previous debuts for Hannon & 2 for Fahey. Trainer Botti conforming to the working guideline of wins rare before August and wins build through the later months and October often his strongest month. In 2013 12 of his 21 wiins came in October with another 5 between September 12th to 26th. Sharp Sailor his 4 win from 32 runs in 2014 but the 3rd win in August. [Aug 28] Deerfield a medium one and a touch narow. Had an easy time in the lead but comfotably outpaced in the last 2f by the similar frame but stronger build of Sharp Sailor. Deerfield looking a bit green or perhaps cowed (in equine hierarchy terms) when Sharp Sailor moved up to join him downhill. Deerfield losing concentration on the race and the head going up and the jk driving him by-2.5f and a whip crack around 2f out. Deerfield still looking a bit head up and worried in the HS. Lower to middling effort from him looking 70s of some sort for the 440k. Went back and had a look at Sharp Sailor's breeze Video as well. A mostly unremarkable video with a typical balanced one by sire HTN other than the neck a bit short. Perhaps a bit round behind but ok build for an HTN. Looks active and moves ok in the gather and does a straight breeze and a balanced mover. Does seem to be able to up to a faster action when pressed. [Aug 29] What is the plan with Overlord? Prescott usually splits and batches his 2yos up into competitive 2yos first and the later batches will include a lot of 3yo set-ups including those who need 10f+ at three but will have 3 x quick runs while green at 2yo to get a low OR. To Aug 29th Overlord one of only 3 x 2yos Prescott has run. Does he have 'nothing' this year or some other issue? Overlord over 7f FTO and too green. Up to 8f here and still green and able to keep up fine to the slow pace up looking slow of mind and plain slow when the 2f sprint started. Left behind at that point and seemed to be having trouble keeping his forelegs co-ordinated to 1f out and fading (?) soon after. A solid size if a bit upright in front andtailing away a bit. He looks like a 3yo set-up but his runs have been spaced out and an early 2yo runner for Prescott so perhaps he thinks Overlord can compete to win at 2yo. Odd move in that Overlord drops to 6f 3TO which he didn't look fast enough for here. That 3TO run on Soft and showing a foreleg curl her if not a real KA. 3TO run over 7f to get a usable OR for Nurseries over 7f rather than 3yo set-up? |
