5p/£ Rule 4.

Low level Auction Race made thinner by the most expensive filly - Smart Stepper being WD. Halfway positions to final suggest a too strong pace with the biggest of the prominent fillies just holding on from the closers. Probably better to read the race as the others in the first 4 at halfway not finishing the race off for various reasons and none of the Closers ever go close to challenging the winner and whole filed only spread over 4L at Hf.

Trainer Appleby still developing his 2yo style and only had his first 'fully trained' winners in 2013. The 3 were 2 x STOs and 1 x 3TO (after a 2nd on STO). Two of those wins off unplaced debuts and another off a volunteer 4th in the Brocklesby. Appleberry his 1st STO run, after 4 x debuts finishing in 5th-10th range, and another win off an uncompetitive into. Which suggests his style is settling down to be recognisable in some ways. Appleberry at a longer SP of his 2 runners at PFCT on debut ridden by the preferred stable jk and looking a better physical type than the 'other String'. Appleberry running a competent race here tracking an average pace in 2R and probably the biggest in the field. Which meant a win although probably only a 60s filly.

A fair bit of 'same as on debut' behind her and always a tricky issue. A horse does something wrong on debut and you tell yourself it'll have grown out of that by STO. Some do but many dont and you watch while it chucks any chance away reprising the debut antics. Make On Madam a slow start on debut and then taking time to respond to the jk to get well behind, Then switching out from an advantageous rail position to try to make ground late on. And she did exactly the same here and worked behind the field from a stall near the rails to end up trying to run down the winner racing widest on the track. Again, the job she made of trying to get back the ground she had tossed away was fine in the context of the race. Another usable 60s and one of the bigger ones in the field but will she fix the problems NTO?

Millar Rose another smaller one in the field but running competently and also ending up running wide having been int he stall next to the rail. Lower 60s at best and not of interest. Olivia Fallow another small one and for a trainer who does poorly with 2yos. Also got well behind, because of greenness, but made trundling progress along the rail to pick off the tired ones and achieving a poor Est. Diatomic running competently but fading early and no obvious reason for further interest.

Magic Time led on debut from a stall next to the rail and had to work harder here to get to the rail after 1.5f starting from the widest stall. Even so, on a downhill track a weak effort in the last 2f. Trainer reported later MT had 'scoped dirty' after the race as if she had some infection. But a smaller and ready filly lacking bulk to develop so always seems likely to be vulnerable to bigger girls even in low level auction races. Costing £17,000 meaning she is often going to be giving weight away in these type of races.

Back to more-of-the-same with Alaskan Wing who had looked a small filly with a bit of 'Cheap Speed' but unable to put a whole race together & lacking scope anyway. Ran too free here but a too early fade (again) to be of interest even at a low level until she shows more (prob unlikely).

Atreus worth keeping on the 'Check STO' since she threw ground away at the start, ran too freely getting it back then got hampered in centre track and wasting time, with others, running wide around a long curve. Clearly, predicting which of the trainer's 2yos will develop (be allowed to develop) to be seller of low level nursery winners in very hard as Mick likes to be opaque. But, she seemd to havbe a bit of low level zip so check how the profile looks STO.
