SUMMARY
GS from GSS on Decs. 1mm of rain overnight. GStick 06:30am.

"They cannot all be good can they?". A race that seemed to have less content than the billing suggested. A £10k bonus race and the Brocklesby 3rd takes on Fahey 150k one for important owners, K Ryan slightly hyped one with the "Prince" on, other 2nd tier 2yo oriented trainers and so forth. Even if the long tail of Garbage on profile ran to order.

Race played out like a lot of similar horses up front unable to show anything different to separate themselves. Free-running Flyball & settled Burtonwood the first 2 from early in the race and always running alongside each other to the point of probably swapping the race lead in the last 1F at various times as one found a bit more grip or just on-the-nod. Harry Hurricane (travelled best of those behind front 2 at Hf) & Come Uppence able to make a bit of ground on the first 2 with HH looking quite threatening until tiring last 0.5F. Fast Act and Brazen Spirit both losing a little ground. But a worry for the quality of the race that the Garbage & Clueless either made VTLs or lost very little to the frontrunners in the second half of the race. Early pace probably too quick and the front of the race "walking home" allowing the vague regrouping. Overall, a race with OR70s of some sort at the front and some though needed over whether, and how far, any of the 3rd to 7th can rate above OR70. Rather than expecting a good set of them to convert to maiden winners with little fuss.

Flyball the biggest in the field having not looked that big relatively in the Brocklesby. Leggy and not a straight mover in front. With the help of a run able to hang on despite running to Free downhill but probably also helped by the lack of something "different" (in early season terms) in opposition. Job already done for £9k purchase but seems likely to end late OR70s in nurseries unless he develops well.

Burtonwood drew the thought of "God, he's small", on first view and small in a small group. A compact, ready 2yo, and still up behind. Notably competent which helped him run a solid FTO but another looking like an early maiden winner that lacks scope and ends up in nurseries OR70s (in the full term). Not the type of Acclamation with some length and strong development potential. More like one out early because of his size rather than because he has been burning up the gallops. Owner Armstrong interviewed before the race and came across as an almost Cartoon Cut-out, deferential Northerner. Monosyllabic and not helping old crock Cooper out by making the interview work for him. Said he had 19 x 2yos with 7 part owned by Cheveley Park (where Mayson has gone to stud). Left with the feeling of how did this guy get all that money given the apparent lack of zip & nous. He owns the "largest quarry in NW England..". Inherited from a zippy father, perhaps.

Harry Hurricane travelled wel IC and made and effort 2F out to overlap leading pair. That effort stalling by 1F out and lost some ground until the leaders folded back very late. Despite trainer Baker saying he doesn't get his 2yos ready FTO and they all come-on-for-a-run (another worthless phrase which should be banned) his record does not support that. His few winners each year usually show it FTO and then develop inconsistently. He has had 3 x early season FTO wins and none of those horses has won again as 2yos and not run to the same level again. So, on balance a trainer to avoid and this promising run may be all the horse is and would he improve much ayaway?

Come Uppence a little different from the raft of smaller, compact and ready ones and seemed to lack the pace of those. Got outpaced in mid-race then staying on again as the leaders folded. Another suspect as an open maiden type.

Fast Act and absolutely typical early shape and sprinter type the trainer has in the first batch. Usually peak STO and seldom win FTO unless a better type like Hamza (FTO wins usually come mid-April). Another to run well enough but in a slightly suspect race. Able to make an effort towards the front two but then fading earlier than HH. Ran a bit freer than that one. Another borderline one.

Brazen Spirit taken out of the Brocklesby because of soft ground but running on softer turf here. Ridden by Kirby who rode Evans' FTO 2yo winners on days either side of this race. Broke well and never looking fully balanced in the race and Kirby never really getting active. Another borderline one and presume will try better ground. Like Baker the FTOs for trainer Cox winners usually show more than this unless the going/track a real excuse.

Dascombe moaning a wekk ago when London Life balloted out of the KTNA race which suggested she might be ok FTO but probably more Dascombe over-exuberance (as with Don Sigfredo who he "hoped would win" via a tweet and adding so he could explain the horse's name. Can't Wait). Having been an over-preparer for FTO in his early career he seems to leave more to work on mentally these days. LLife never knowing enough to get involved and another 60s one?

Little interest in the others and a bad sign for them, and the race, that the small and fit Chester Deal managed to get back so much ground and positions. Some minor interest, presumably at early seller level in Josie Joe & Lady Bling. Bothe very green and having various problems on the day but both with a bit more size than CDeal, for eg. Josie Joe particularly looking like the type that trainer Mark Brisbourne would have out early and manage to win something with.
