SUMMARY
G from GS on Decs. 1.4mm Rain Sunday.

CoC Quote = "Inner of straight dolled out 14yds at 6f and 6yds at the winning post.".

Aces looking a smaller medium & IP one in the Breeze Video. Ready 2yo shape. Mixed story with the movement. Looks balanced and has range overall. On the day mixed that range with trying to do a fastish action and not really controlled. Ended up hanging right and changing leads a lot in the last 1f. Not necessarily a straight speed type given the range although physically looks a nowish sprinter. Interesting to see how he has developed and how his movement looks over 6f here. Picture on the QR website maked him look a ready sprinter but his neck looking longer than in the VT. Still up behind. Nothing worthwhile pre-race in Hills' wekkly Blog. Just 'nice horse' stuff, blah, blah. Bentley rides.

Gary Moore makes the strong point, twice, that El Femix shows 'a lot of speed but needs time' in 214. Ryan rides.

Notes from June 27th (WD AP at NMKJ) about Royal Rettie's Breeze = Breeze Video for Royal Rettie seems to show the narrower and lengthy type of the sire and lighter behind. Hard to judge size but smaller medium? Green in the breeze and gets time to get balanced and kicking up a lot of soil earlier on but seems to go ok when that stops. Fastish action and just about timed ok. Looks better than 17k's worth

Hills interviewed after the win by Aces and in his usual startled and nervous schoolboy manner. Has entered Ace in the Middle Park & the Dewhurst. Said he would expect to step Aces up to 7f NTO and perhaps at the St Leger meeting (Champagne Stakes?). Check the VP & PRev but Ace still looking a mix of a ready sprint 2yo but leggy & with range. Jk Bentley also interviewed & made the particular point that FTO wins were not the target and getting a good experieince for the horse more useful. Said he was close enough in the last 1f here to push to get past the leader.

Some scratch notes = Skate small & getting a soft lead on the rail here. Why the 4L gap back to 3rd = Race Shape or Skate under-rated? Hannon talking up Reflation as "could be anything" noting he was strong but very laidback. Looked sleepy here in VRev & Hughes scrubbing along around halfway. Trainer Gary Moore interviewed before the race and noted he wasn't much good at getting 2yos to win FTO. Why the short SP? = just the Ryan-riding-for-his-dad factor? Royal Rettie looking a bit too narrow and weak behind (?).

[Sep 2] Bridgekeeper a poor run but an acceptable first 4f. Running settled on the Rail in 2R but finding little when asked to increase the effort at 2f out. Looking for excuses you would say he didn't looked balanced into the last 2f and hanging left 1f out and that the final 2F 'did not fit right' with how he went through the first 4f. Worth re-iterating that his 3rd FTO was in a very slow time and none of the other subsequent runners from the race have competed strongly in various quality races. None has acheived an [Est] >10 in later runs. The PRev view would be that they weren't all as bad as that sounds and there is some other factors at work. No reason on type & power why Bridgekeeper shouldn't be ok around 70. This written after Bridgekeeper switched to Polytrack 3TO and is that partly because of the last run? Or just because Eustace is planning to win with him in a weak AW race sometime.

[Sep 12] El Fenix very fit for debut (Moore typical) and seemed to come with a reputation given the short SP. Trainer Moore interviewed before the race and more circumspect saying he didn't have a good record with FTO 2yos. But, he does get FTO wins and the good one can win FTO (like Bronze Maquette). But, if there was some sort of 'gamble' no-one told Ryan Moore and he gave EF a standard ride of allowing EF to jog along at the back after a slowish start and then just some mild prompting in the last 2f to see what the response might be before an early ease. STO at SDWN drawn 7 and able to get a good enough start?
