S by Race Time. SHV from GS on decs. 7mm rain on Mon and 5.5mm overnight. Strong+ WSW Wind = Direct Tailwind in Chute and 3/4 Tailwind from Left in the HS. Fahey SL pre-race piece = "Peraruda [sic] is a tough little filly who tries very hard. She’s a homebred and I’d love her to win the Maiden Stakes at Warwick for her owners. She’s very genuine and tries hard which is always a help and shaped with promise on her debut at Wolverhampton." Time out of line with the Going Desciption & GStick reading & the Strong Tailwind counteracting the slow ground to some extent. Stiff pace and perhaps too strong with field under pressure to chase the leading pair by halfway. Weak race on Profile and Power Play looking plain better class on those markings. Although better built than all except the winner a smaller one in PRev and not better class. Raises issues of quality of the messy, slow paced race he made his debut in. He appeared to get a bit outpaced there and one his appearance here that may well have been real. Attended the stiff pace here and (again) not picking up quickly and then not responding well when bumped by Perardua 1.5F out. Early fade and looks around 70 on this (ab). Which left the race moe open than appeared on Prf and on the weak side with Perardua a thorough trier but smaller & lightly made and lack power & scope. Looking like a a seller filly and probabaly sooner to get a win. Trainer Millman used to get regular FTO wins in early season but then they stopped for several years and poor debuts followed by big ratings increases FTO to STO looked the MO. Trainer's son James has said he wasn't confident riding FTO 2yos and this contributed to the poor debuts. Millman had his first FTO win in 2013 since 2016 with Atzeni riding but that with a 90+ rater staying on in a broken race (Master Carpenter has used that approach to place at Gp3 level as a 3yo). Bonnie Grey another smaller one but perhaps better built than PP. Racing a bit further off the pace than PP (hard to think son James would have had BG racing that close to the lead FTO). But, did more than just stay on past faders and already in the lead by 1F out. Presume 70+ and rating closer to full level FTO than has been typical for trainer recently. Worth noting BG declared for a Fillies maiden race on this day for WDSR in 2 days time. Which would suggest the trainer was intending to miss this race as an NR? Weak race behind and nothing of interest. Kidmeforever a possible for usable low 60s but not showing enough here to think that will be soon, if at all. The other 4 looking small or worse and hard to think any except perhaps Honest Bob's could win anything. HB was in the same work group with Moonraker (won the strong ASCT maiden earlier in the day) earlier in the week. Which suggests that some of the Channon works are very mixed ability. Both went through that gallop as they had in their respective debut races. Moonraker running all over the others in the gallop and allowed to pull forward late on and lead and pull a bit clear. HBob looking small in that group and pushed along all the time just to hang onto the back and looking green. Similar here in a faster pace and never looking balanced. Another homebred that will end up in sellers and might have the build to compete in a bad one if he wises up, leans how to move straight and balanced and perhaps going further. But not much more than academic interest. |
