GSS from SHV on Decs. Stiff SW Wind = Direct Headwind in the HS. GStick in HS as 6.3 Far Side, 6.4 Centre & 6.8 Stands' Side. CoC Quote = "Round Course rail dolled out 4 yards from 1m 1f to 2.5f, drop in at that point. Adds 5 yards to Round Course distances.". Typical 7f Race at the Course in many ways but with the odd subtlety. Big fields here spread wide in the BS have a short run to a tight bend. The field generally forms up into a long ribbon of 2 x 2 pairs around the bend wich means a 13 runner field like this is going to be spread over 10L+. This one managed nearly 14L with Felix De Vega in 8th alone at halfway allowing an extra 3L gap to open. Making ground in the last 3F uphill is hard at any time and giving others a head start deadly. Literally, if Frankel had been in last place in this race at 14L back he would have had to run a blinder to force a photo, he would have done well to place. So, entirely typical that the first 2 home were in 1st & 2nd into the bend. Navigate who was 3rd at Halfway was in a clear 3rd until very late on when hanging and fading and just caught by two around 3R at halfway who stayed on. Prince Of Paris & Artesana running poorly to lose places given their head-start and their ratings suspect. Stravagante & International Name both getting slow starts from wide stalls which left them in the last Pair from early on. Which meant they were completely out of the race before the 1st furlong had been run. Which means the usual problem with big field maidens at the course of not taking the final positions literally. Instead trying to interpret the efforts made by the runenrs given the Run Styles they folowed. Also a point where PRev is very useful because it provides an independent assessment of the horses to hold up against what happened in the race. Check the VP but International Name looking a bigger one but too green to get involved at all. TIme Test able to see off the horses around him ok but, as all the green in the LBL column shows moe than half the field made VTLs on him from Halfway to the line. Interesting to have seen what the result would have been if you removed all the head-starts and ran all 13 up Lanes in the HS starting ta the same point. X-Ref to the PRev/VP to see what promise those who made most VTLs Showed = Stravagante (4.6), International Name (3.7), Town Council (3), Felix De Vega (2.95) & Wind Place And Sho (2.65). |
