SUMMARY
Stiff WSW Wind.

Low level race but informative. Solid looking time for the level but a solid pace and a helpful stiff tailwind adding to that. Longer priced winners happen for a small number of reasons and this sort of race always a candidate. On profile the 'quality' in the race depended on Howlin' For You producing what looked an ok mid 60s front running effort FTO and, perhaps, on Queen Of The Scots being a solid FTO. If either or both of those 'better' types in the context of this race didn't produce then the race would be up-for-grabs and nothing should be much more than 5/1. HFY's debut run at KTNA looks over-rated in hindsight with the 2nd-4th fillies all running to much lower ratings STO (some minor excuses). That race 5 points or more too high. Which already means the level a winner might have to reach here might not be into the OR50s. In PRev looked a middling type in this field and too short a price.

Watching HFY get loaded into the stalls after giving some troubey would make you go cold if you had supported her. She was next door to Diminutive (a known small one) and her backside and the jk are noticeably lower than that filly. HFY hustled up to lead on the rail in a Lo4 and running a bit too freely. But Diminutive always travelling better alongside her anyway. A brief effort in the HS and then an early fade. Owner Fretwell apparently came in by helicopter to watch her run. As with Channon until Moonraker's debut, you hope Fretwell has some better ones still to come or his poor 2013 might be extending.

Madamoiselle Bond receiving weight from all the others and helped further by an App5. Late into the Prelims but a bulkier one in the conext of this field and mid 60s to HFY's 60 or below. Given a quiet intro debut and Hooded FT here (for those who like that angle). Put all that together and she's at a value price which is all the game is in the end (not about 'A winner's a Winner', copyright Thomson D). Competent run in the race. Sitting settled in front rank. Only issue being having to switch out wide in the HS to get around the fading leading line. Advanatge of this is that you get on the Concrete Strip in mid-track and the trademark strong finish (in context) on the CS to win going way.

Alpha Spirit a small one with but a bit of barrel bulk and around 60. Showed a bad attitude on debut and looking a bit one the fat side. Different here and ended up racind 3Wd on the outside of the Lo4 leaders. Despite that still able to get to the lead in the HS and provide the target for the winner. Perhaps need a seller to win. Worth noting the BATh auction race she ran in has produced two winners since incl the 33/1 of the WDSR open fillies' maiden ont he day. So it must be "..working out well" in Punditspeak. Hang on though, the winner of that race, along with the 3rd, 4th & 8th have all been well beaten since. The interesting story of how that race is developing doesn't submit to trite phrases the Pundits use, unfortunately for them.

Diminutive running a touch freely but professional overall and got to the lead int he HS but unable to see the race out. That's what she is. Sparbrook the other in the Lo4 leading line and the smallest of them. As in her previous run she showed some cheap speed before an early fade after getting outpaced as soon as the pace upped a bit. Miss Jonh prhaps a bit bulkier than Diminutive and a competent debut for trainer Meade who has a lot of 2yos to run this year. Might be usable in the low 60s.

Trainer Dalgleish has got FTO wins since his first season in 2011 although those wins partly better types overcoming a bit of wildness FTO. None in 2012 but 3 in May in 2013 and a raft of competitive debuts making the firs 4 in small fields. Queen Of The Scots his 2nd debut this year and along with the 3rd later on the day at EDIN, all have recorded negative rating in finishing 6th. On the flip side the first of those won STO helped by a rail bias. But, one for the Profile algorithm to be tweaked a bit until his debuts look at least competent. In PRev QOTS small and underpowered and the worng price on that. Added to that she seemed to want to refuse to race and part tail flashing early on and the whip out soon after the first 1f was done. Which had no effect. A In some ways a bit baffling to see QOTS entered for the Marygate on Friday along with Ko Cahce (the first filly he run who sone STO). You presume they are the 'best' of what he has ready? On the other hand the Marygate has a huge 26 entries the large majority of whom will be 70s handicappers and worse, in the fullness, so a pair of 'Day Out' entries.
