SUMMARY

Solid Pace but not over-taxing other than for the over-racing Escalating. Looked to be a lull into the HS to allow some CZ action and the picture shows the position coming to the 2f out pole. Field having started to spread out to get a run with Burnt Sugar 1 from the Right in the Maroon with a White Sash. He had been about 5.5L back at Halfway 1 off the rail and some progress to be 2-3L back by the time the final efforts were made 2F out.

Fairly even battle between the prominent racers and those trying to make ground in the last 2f with the exception of Burnt Sugar racing widest. He was the one that seemed to have an extra gear over the others and had got to the lead as early as 1F out and then going away with only Maftool going on in the last 0.5f really giving any chase. Mosse riding and he must think winning British races is relatively easy.

Burnt Sugar a half Brother to Brown Sugar who won two x Gp3s in 2013 including this race in 71.78s (0.01s faster than this race). Hannon jnr had said in early season that Burnt Sugar was a much better built physical type then Brown Sugar. In that context his performances to date, on turf have been disappointing. But his previous win was in a soft race on Polytrack then he was beaten off OR86 LTO at YORK (check Video). Seems likely he moves better on Polytrack and this an improved effort and more in line with the Hannon early season hype (doing work on their Artifical Surface gallops).

For reference Brown Sugar was well beaten in the Middle Park in his final 2yo run. He started his 3yo season in August in a 5f Gp2 off a notional OR111 and finished last. 6th in a 6f Listed race STO now OR109. His best RP timefigure is 92 and presumably always was an OR90s horse at best and his current OR needs to work down until he finds a level he can compete off. Say, Handicaps <100 & lesser track Listeds? Or lower. Check how that goes and how the bigger Burnt Sugar develops relatively.
