CoC Quote = "The rail between the 6f and 1f point has been moved out by another 3 yards after racing on Friday. Actual race distances will be: Race 1- 6f 55y (+37y), ".
Fahey in his SL article = "Character Onesie is quite a nice horse who has been weak and backward which is why it’s taken a while to get him to the track. He does go okay and will win a maiden – but I’m not sure it will be first time up. Doctor Kehoe ran well on debut but then disappointed next time and might be one for nurseries while Gabrial The Tiger was a breeze-up buy – and very keen. A lot of horses from that source are but he’s fit and well – if I had to pick one of my three it would be Character Onesie.". Jockeys = Hamilton (CO), Nolan (GTT) & A5 Garritty (DK).
Breeze Video for Gabrial The Tiger doesn't showmuch.any of the 'keenes' Fahey notes unless you count taking a bit of time to respond to being eased down. Does a poor breeze and never getting going fully and hustled along by the rider. As with many turf breezes on cut-up ground GTT looking unsure of his footing and stumbling at times. How much of that being green or loose ground hard to judge. He also doesn't use any range and a short pounding action in front. Again, difficult to know whether that is his action or whether he is uncomfortable on the surface. Prob below medium size and not coming across as a ready and snappy actioned sprinter.
Interesting to compare GTT's Breeze Video to that of Landing Night with both by Kodiac and selling for similar, lower level, prices. LN's Breeze looking better than GTT's and looking more like a ready smaller sprinter. Ok build for his size, does look keen, and goes through the breeze moving straight and looking ok. Better than GTT. Also seems to have little range but showing a faster action that GTT didn't. Compare how their Debuts/Careers go.
Good comments from Dascombe in 214 about Tortilla Jackson saying he has done nothing but grow and probably their heaviest 2yo. Noting he is either groing to be a "a monster of a sprinter" or "monstrously slow". Finishing by saying that he has the size and strength to be 'nice' sprinter. Pity he ruined it by using 'nice'. Another by Kodiac to compare to the two Breeze buys noted above.
=== Post Race ===
Unusual Shape to the Race for a Sprint at CHES. First 3 home all running Lane 1. Leading Pair through Halfway settled pace then kicked 2-3L clear together into the last 1.5f+ but then both fading & satalling. Winner well back into the last 1.5f and race collapsing together in the last 1f with Closers, Prominent racers & Rail/Lane 1 runners in a heap at the finish.
Part of the reason for the relative lack of progress for the rail runners because of Tortilla Jackson running in 2R on the rail and looking unbalanced and driven throughout. This presented a roadblock to Splash Of Verve & Racing Knight on the rail in 3R & 4R. SoV hesistant in picking up then blocked near the rail. RK hampered even more around 1F out and ended up looking quite 'promising' Closing in centre track late on. But, given his previous form and size, plus the form of SoV, prob a hint that the pace was too fast andf to be carefull how to interpret the result with some unusual 'dynamics' playing out.
Landing Night looking 'as advertised' in his Breeze Video. Lost 1L from a wide draw but then making an effort to get to 2R on the rail. Had to give up the rail before 2f run with TJ floundering about in front of LN and moved up to track the leader. Solid effort inside 2F out to go 2-3L clear with Crikey and while being carried right hand to centre track, Hung left back to the Far Rail inside the last 1f then Stalling and fading in e line. Looking a smaller medium and ready sprinter and similar size to Gabrial The Tiger who was running an entirely different Run Style.
