G as on Decs. Stalls Centre. Seen notes in Race 70 about Channon 2yo performances on day and work gallop videos. Race played out like an average pace with a 2F sprint bolted onto the end. Winner had got an Easy Lead so best placed to win. Difficult in that set up for fillies behind to make much ground unless superior. 2nd & 3rd home both 1VTL+. Race can be relatively empty and rely on Hannon to give some 85+ quality. That quality from Channon not here and inclined to view this was a 60s up to leaks 80s edition. Work with that outlook for present and revisit if subsequent runs cross that. Specifically, CR should struggle at Listed level and Persun not a certainty to win an Open Maiden STO. Clouds Rest a small one but a balanced set-up, fast action, some natural pace on the action and very professional. But that lack of size & power should show up somewhere along the line (often a bit later with precocious fillies since there are less 'bigger ones' and zippy types can do well early). Say her movement lifting her to a lacking scope 78. Persun a real problem for the form. On her latest work gallop VT she runs alongside River Spirit most of the way and a similar size and lacks that one's bulk. On the plus side she seems naturall rangy and a good mover, unlike RS. Goes a bit better than RS in the gallop and might have gone away from her late on except the gallop was set up for a particular filly to finish first (which seems to indicate one who will run soon). That filly struggling to get her head in font on the Gallop so Persun held up alongside S. Persun green in prelims here and at the start of the race. Receiving 6lbs but relatively made the best effort in the last 1.5f. Another where the movement is lifting her above the low OR70s type? Northern trip STO or BTON? Spirit Of Xian a bit more bulk in the filed but not outstanding. Some sort of 79-84 on debut run and didn't go like a 5f filly when going on best at the finish. Held back here and the 2F sprint against a runner on an easy lead again showed her lack of 5f pace. Expect to see her up to 6f NTO. Expensive Date another mid-70s one and showed enough in the 2F sprint to think she can compete to win an Open Maiden but probably needing a lesser quality one to win. Mambo Paradise showing a likelable finish FTO and looking 80+ and better quality in tems of this field. Like SOX a slightly bigger type in this group but not a higher class one. On the VRev you could come to the conclusion she found the going here a bit firm for some reason. Never really striding out to the average pace. Not picking up in the 2F sprint and hanging both ways. Only the whip-1f+ seem to convince a basically willing filly to stretch out and she did go faster but soon hanging again and hanging worse and moving awkwardly when the jk stop asking for effort. Worth another chance to show 80+ zip on softer going. Elibeth Flynn a 60s filly and running in early season conditions races on the off-chance of place and something to put on her Catalogue Page to blur reality for those that want that mis-direction. Poor mover in front, splaying her legs. Unbalanced and hanging after a brief effort. What can owner Brian Johnson see in Derek Shaw? An appalling record with the Johnson 2yos over the previous 2 seasons (in line with Shaw's historical record). Midnight Destiny the 3rd runner for the pair this year and at -12 MD recorded the best debut of the 3 so far. But, she looked clueless at times and as if this was the first time she had ever galloped at one point. The three have cost €16k, €23k & €28 so not expensive but solid prices and Johnson presumably has more of the more expensive ones with him. But Paddock Review becomes close to meaningless because the horses dont perform to reasonable levels anyway. |
