GFG by Race Time. G as on Decs. Stands Side Course in use. Hannon website day before race wrt Ski Slope = "She has thrived physically since she came and moves well, but you never know what you are going to meet in these Newmarket maidens" Race run down Stands Rail. Average pace with a bit of a 2f sprint tacked on. Half to Final positions showed hard to make ground and the one that faded most of the leading 4 needs an excuse. As an intro see the piece about Channon's runners on the day in HTON result. Juventas seen doing poor works Gallops on Video and then an anonymous but staying on 4th FTO. On the eveidence of this race she is 75+ but not by much and her job to win the race boiled down to being able to haul herself past Dutch Party in the Chev Park 2nd cols but got a good bresk and given a quielty professional ride by Sanders. In the front line with RoK and always going a bit better but not able to separate from that filly in the last 2f. A bit bigger than RoK and bit bit better quality but not a certain STO converter. The first string Chev Park filly - Ski Slope - no doubt has gone dow as an 'Eyecatcher' generally. Slow start then hauled back further and effectively out of the race before halfway. Green at times in the last 3F and not helped by the jk not deciding what to do to get around SShowgirl. Ski Slope wallowing around just beofre the final 1f and not going anywhere and awaiting instructions and finding the experience a bit overwhelming. One use of the whip and she probably showed the best forward effort shown in the race to be a going 4th at the line. Probably the best filly in the race. Savoy Showgirl intertesting, again through watching Work Gallops videos. In a video from the wekk before this run she looks pretty good working in a pair with Ho Yam Lay (6th/9 at 20/1 the previous day at NMKT in an Auction race). 2 or 3 days before this run she is in a 4 x 2yo filly workout and looks to be struggling to hang on to the other and finishes with Tarando (3 runs to date and 2 places and prob late 60s). SS & Tarando seem comfortably beaten by the unraced pair of Touchline & Thunderinmyheart (38k, Mastercraftsman). SShowgirl a bit gree here and just a so-so effort and sub 75 as the works suggested. More interest in the unraced pair. Dubai Breeze the first debut for Clive Brittain as he gets his 2yos going. Tends to only win with the useful ones and usually show that ability FTO. A few minor winners do develop but a number of horses with usable ability will end up maidens by being run in too high quality races. DB an anonymous debut and another perhaps 60s. Trainer Charlie (CW) Appleby hasn't really convinced with his debut runner so far in 2014. 11 x FTOs to this day produced 4 x 3rs and 7 unplaced and SPs uncorrelated. A fair bit of greeness and flopping about in races amongst those runners. Makes one pine for a David Loder primed FTO so you knew what you were going to get. Differet story here with True Course who got going well enough to be leading line on the rail. So why the strong fade with marker horse RoK disappearing way from her? Partl because she isn't much bigger than RoK but some part to do with her movement in Front. Looked very upright in front in the downhill 5th 1f and never stretching out and then fading early off the scratchy & inefficient moving. But no particular interest on size. Varian 2yos that are going to win usually show it FTO and winners developing from debuts beaten as far as Khawaater was rare. WHich means a question over how much slack you cut the filly STO given her slow start here which got her too far back and then the jk accepting that and just HnH plugging on until a fade. Inclined to the downside view STO unless PRev, weak field or circumstantials suggest a re-visit. Celestine Abbey small and outclassed. |
