GGF as on Decs and for the first 2 days of the Meeting. Stalls Centre with GStick 8.5 there but firmer at 8.8 on either Rail. Fast conditions the prevous day with a part Tailwind. Changed to Medium+ NW Wind & a 1/2+ Headwind fom the Right in the HS. Ger Lyons interviewed before the race and a very straightforward guy. Said the ground was NOT as advertised. He said there was a faster strip under the Stands' Rail and there wasn't any GF anywhere else on the course. Expected most fillies to make a beeline for the Rail and it could be a messy race. Ainippe would not be ridden forward and might end up in behind with no way through. Said she had come here as a season end run and would have the winter to get over it. But, felt that it was unacceptable for high class racing to be on a course with a big track bias. === Post Race === Prevous Day's Broze Cup wonf by Daw 27 and high draws advanataged. Both the Silver & Gold Cups later on the day won by high draws pulling clear on the Stands' Rail in the last 1f. Racing Stands' Side away fromt he rail a relative negative. GStick suggested a fast Strip along the Far Rail and the result of the Gold Cup seeming to comfirm that with the horses first home on that side competing for second with the 2R behind the clear winner on the Stands' Rail. Jk Graham Lee interviewed after Dark Reckoning's win and noted he had won races on Thursday on that rail strip having been drawn High. He was drawn 12 here but said he knew he had to get to the rail and then to hope he got a run. Making ground late on along the rail to lead late. Said he was probably on GF going and the rest of the course Good. Other thought after this race was that he Hannon's really do know what they are doing. Obvious, of course, but wherever you look, they are there already and dig out any bits of improvement and edges. Won the Nursery on the card here with a medium one who is improving but will almost certainly struggle at 3yo. Then almost win this with Parsley who presuambly will be an 80s handicapper in the fullness but they know which ones to choose (quality & condition wise) from their huge 2yo string to go to targetted races. |
