Soft from GF on Decs. 12mm rain Thu night & 6mm on Friday. Interesting Jk call for the Hannon pair. Hughes at the meeting and rode one of the Hannon pair in Div I. Jks for this Division are Fortune (Miracle Ninetynine) & Levey (Who Dares Wins). Hughes presumably on his way to WTON with his frst ride in the 6:20. Hughes involved in a Championship tussle with Moore. Chapple-Hyam puts Napoleon Solo up as his 'Bargain Buy' in 214, Saying NS is "sharp, well built & laid back....better 6f than 5f... should be out in May..... he's got an engine". All fine, but how does that stretch to a late Sept debut over 7f on soft ground? Mixed Stories all around regarding Puissant's Breeze Sale. Racing Post say the sale was for £240k and Goffs own website says £150k. Mixed Pedigree story with a slow maturing 8f+ sire and a 5f 2yo dam who didn't train on. How will that mix work, even given Galileo doesn't get a lot of big, boaty, backward ones. More medium and deep backwardness. The feeling left watching Puissant's Breeze that the mixing had produced something halfway between the extremes and perhaps not that talented at anything. Medium size and build with medium range. Does a slower looking breeze and partly because of a middling action speed. Hustling him to go faster doesn't work probably because he doesn't own that speed. But, doesn't use much range in front and looking a bit scratchy. Also holding the head up and stiff and not looking well timed Front to Rear action. A lot needing to be put down to inexperience and requiring to improve as he matures. Given the price, whatever it was, the pedigree just acting as a 'Designer Label' on a standard issue one? Charlton Website Pre-race - "McCreery runs in the second division of the maiden and makes his debut. He is a half brother to Thistle Bird, by Big Bad Bob. He has been doing well at home, and I hope he will show some promise, against some well fancied newcomers from some big yards. The ground may be on the soft side for him on debut.". |
