SUMMARY

GF by Race Time. G from GF on Decs. CoC says "Watering to Maintain" but no Details. Later report said 15mm Thu/Fri & 8mm on BS Monday.

Stands Side HS in Use. CoC Quote = "Lower Bend dolled out approximately 6 yards from the 6 furlong marker to the 2 furlong marker in the straight increasing distances by about 10 yards".

Slow Pace and the longest SPs (33/1 to 100/1) in the first 5 places at Halfway. 4 of those 5 dropping away as the race turned into a 2.5f Slow Sprint. The exception being Simone In Time (Grey & brown colours in the picture which shows her inside the 3f mark being joined by Mysterious Star (B&W) & winer Frantical (light Yellow).

SOT up in trip by 2.6f from 'Divotgate' STO having been allowed to get adrift FTO. 100/1 here but, as her VP picture shows, not a 'rabbit' and the wrong price here. Another to add to the evidence that the Market, and probably Kirk himself, have little idea how the stable's 2yos are going to run. Kirk has had 5 x 2yo wins in 2014 at SPs of 33/1, 25/1 (twice), 16/1 & 7/2 (for a horse on 6TO). Profitable to back everything but 5 wins a highpoint for Kirk after 3 poor years. SOT getting a soft lead having made a sharp break but looking willing and making a solid low level effort in the last 2F+. But, can the trainer get a horse to run well twice in a row?

[Sep 5th] Ventura Castle looking a 'Hannon' type with some depth in front and looking in good condition. But, niggles over his set up and lacking body length, round croup & narrow hipped and Neck a bit too long. 68 to 70 say. Had hinted at either being lazy or some negative attitude FTO and more hints here. Breaking okish but then dropping back and not responding to being niggled along to end up 4R on the rail. Jk niggling then drving along soon inside 4F out in the HS and the Whip used before 3F out. VC then just plugging on at the one, low level, pace. Hard to judge whether that was all he had to give or whether he is holding something back. Still going forward at the pace VC decided was ok late on when cut up on the rail. Up to 10f 3TO on a stiffer track and slow plugging on her makes that seem reasonable. But, will he tough-it-out if required and below Open Maiden level quality anyway.
