G from GS on Decs. Stiff+ Southerly Wind = Direct Tailwind. Tim Easterby interviewed before racing and said Bobby's Flyer was a 'tough little horse' who had shown 'some toe at PFCT'. But a then more downbeat 'see how he goes here' and giving the impression he wasn't expecting a lot and BF a nursery devt type as a smaller one. Relatively incident packed race and a lucky win for a Channon smaller one by persistence, handling the track and some undetected chicanery. Also one of those races at RIPN which leaves you feeling sea-sick having watched it a lot of times. Lots of horse not handling the track and rolling around and bobbing up-and-down in one sport. Jersey Bull a low 70s one at best but handled the track well and got a soft time in front. Others behind not handling the track and getting hampered meant the placed horses lost 5-7L to JB for various reasons and still not beaten far by JB. App3 jk on JB with a clear lead over others (aside from BF) at Hf and jk able to sit still for stretch until 2F out allowing some of those in difficulties behind to clos eup but JB then able to make enough of an effort along the rail to hang on. Jk on JB got away with causing the intereference between BF and Secret Brief after 1.5F. WTDavies leaning in on BF which meant that one bumped SB. Flying Machine either green, or unwilling or not handling the track and never going forward properly and the jk driving along the whole way. Even so, he managed to find enough plugging on in the last 1F, still looking laboured, to be overlapping JB at the line. Presume he didn't handle the track and 5-10lbs better than JB. In the Good-Old-Days MaJo used to send close to his best 6f+ 2yos to this maiden and they would run all over the course, in typical unprepared manner, but still win if only faced by the usual <75 supporting cast. Recent seasons have been borderline for 75 and some well below that and season maidens. Secret Brief not the bigger type of 'moose' the better ones used to be and looking about the same size int he early Lo3 with JB & BF. Got leant into and bumped+1.5f by BF and unbalanced to the point of losing 4-5L. Got back going again and made 3L+ back in the 2.5F in creep zone. Unable to make enough effort to go with JB and then fading. He did get the chance to get his own back on BF though and bumped that one off the rail inside 2F out (see Stewards' Enquiry text below = WTDavies notable for his absence). No obvious promise from those behind. Bobby's Flyer showing some pace again but a size smaller than JB and an early fade. Just Marion seems to have an issue with her attitude now to add to being small and with no scope to develop. She really did need to win 'NOW' at BTON and presumably sellers next. Mr Shekells perhaps usuable 60s but given a very active and hard ride from the start as if his attitude is poor and unwilling. Mr Christopher the worst of the those not handling the track and half rearing in front at times as he got unblanced. Stewards Enquiry Text = "The Stewards noted that BOBBY’S FLYER (IRE), unplaced, had interfered with SECRET BRIEF (IRE), placed third, four and a half furlongs out, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence. The Stewards noted that SECRET BRIEF (IRE), placed third, had interfered with BOBBY’S FLYER (IRE), unplaced, shortly after the two furlong marker, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved SECRET BRIEF (IRE)’s placing." |
