Stiff SE Wind = close to Direct Headwind. Slow Conditions and slow time with the horses walking at the finish. Probably worthless form. The fact that Quint finished second more an indication of how the race fell apart in the last 2f and the runners that tried to get into the race fading badly. Quint a small one and got behind early and taken to race wide out of the Kickback. Got to second by trundling past tired horses in the last 1-2F rather than being promising or ready, or good enough, to win. Although trainer Meade, in his new full-time training rolw, does seem to have got his early runners fit FTO. Mecca's Mirage slightly bigger in field and ok range in front. But receiving weight and poor form in a slow time. Trainer STO that held it's form, or not? Grosmont joint topweight and a bit bigger in this field and an ok run in the conditions without looking promising. Needs PRev. On Appro a small and compact one and still owner trained and ridden by a rarely used A7. On physicals be good if OA got into the 40s. On the plus side OA did handle the surface well so will presumably be slogging round SWEL in the winter. Mount Isa run here should be discounted as a real indication of what she can do. Some combination of a bad attitude, green and not liking the kickback. Once Mt Isa consented to do something in the last 1F while drifting across the track she was making ground on the others and still moving fowad at the line. But onto tired horses at a very poor level. Diminutive a competent run here FTO but did not seem to be enjoying this run at all. Gave impression she didn't like the kickback and thinking more about that than racing. An early fade. Indian Champ smaller but with some build positive. But, too tubby here and looked unfit. A slow start and making some mid-race effot to recover that led to a very early fade. See how he develops with fitness and presumably a Nurs Project. Grim Fascination tracking McCabe trying to get a win with Red Connect. Here, he seemed to have played what he would consider his (only) Trump Card - switch to SWEL, but without the usual headgear FT. But RC looking small even in this field and joint topweight. Slow start meaning RC had to make an early effort to make progress to the leading line against a pace too stiff for the way the surface was riding. RC seemed to handle Fibresand well enough to make that move and run int he leading line until fading only a touch earlier than you might expect given his relative size and early exertions. McCabe made an WTRB report saying the Fibresand was the problem which seems debatable. Interesting to see what the master plan is NTO to convert this thing to a winner of any sort. |
