Soft for the First 4 races (this was Race 4) then Heavy after that. Blustery Showers during the Meeting. S from GF on Decs. 22mm of rain in 24hrs to 06:15 & still raining. GStick reading from that time. CoC quote = "Rail dolled out from 2.5f to past the winning post to provide a fresh inner running line. Adding 5yds". Very Strong WSW wind = Close to Direct Headwind on the Ridge & 3/4 Headwind from the Right Downhill & HS. Consistent theme through the races at the Meeting with the Stands Rail proving a big advantage and anything racing even 2 lanes off it likely to be 'walking' in the last 1f. Winners on the day either the horse that got to the lead on the Stands' Rail downhill or the horse further back on the rail. In the second case the Closer going past a leader in the last 1F while in Lane 1 having switched out. Leader perhaps having gone a bit hard to get to the lead. 1st two home in this race fit that script with Toofeeg leading from early on and performing the classic move of veering across the track on the downhill section. Smile That Smile prob the smallest but ok build and fit enough. Able to overhaul Toofeeg staying on up the rail behind him. Other 3 discountable racing away from the rail and predictably fading early. Aledaid clearly has a 'hole' in him and perhaps never was the 'Canford Cliffs' the early season hype suggested. But, even given an unthinking ride by Dettori (get on the Stands' Rail you blithering idiot..) and making up ground too quick on the wrong part of the course, a very early fade. In line with how he has petered out in previous races after travelling ok for a while. |
