Going changed to GS after 10mm of rain in a 'Thuderstorm' at 14:00pm. GFG from GF on Decs & 9mm of rain Overnight. Far Rail fully in. The most notable part of Blue Aegean's Breeze VT looked to be how well she uses her range and particularly how far she gets he rear hooves under her body on the recovery. Produces a slightly bounding effect when seen side-on late in the breeze as she slows down. Just a medium one and averagely deep body at most. Some length and only slightly up behind. Perhaps just okish strength in front on the gather. Presumably did a fast time for the price but the Video highlights one of the problems with Breezes. BA barely gets into canter in the gather before the 2F pole and really just hopping along as the rider holds her back. At the 2F pole the rider lets her go and asks for maximun effort. With that BA goes from doing <10mph to absolutely flat out as fast as she can which was prob <100m. She races flat and level but gets a bit of a 'Speed Wobble' on after 1F and unbalanced and hangs right but 'catches' it ok and corrects herself. Mostly finishes off the 2F with her range meaning she doesn't Stop as quickly as a faster actioned horse with no range. She does seem to have a fast action though. But, the set-up for the Breeze is more like an American Quarter Horse race (2f, 440yds). How does that translate to having to put a 3F run-up to the 2F blast in a real race and having other horses all round making it hard. Traditionally a strong maiden, often with relevance to Royal Ascot, going back at least 15 years. The 2013 edition saw the Norfolk Stakes runner-up beat the Queen Mary 6th. In 2012 the winner went on to be 4th in the Queen Mary. The 2011 edition looked to be made up of just maiden winners. But then Channon popped up with his trick of winning weak foreign races with small ones. Nayarra winning an Italian Group 1 as an 8 race maiden and never winning another race. She was probably about an 88-91 filly at her peak which says a lot about Italian racing. As of 2015 the very weak Italian races will ,thankfully, disappear. Not on quality grounds but because Italian racing is unable to pay out prize money in timescales counted in less than several years. Mysterious Ways. The race normally throws up 4-5 later maiden winners but a smaller field this year. Dame Liberty ought to be a good one running on debut in this race for Hannon who has won the race with subsequent Group winners going back. In his 214 ('2yos of 2014') summary Hannon says something interesting in that she is 'tall and leggy' but surprisingly fast given that. 16/1 here suggests the Hannons dont think she is a 90+ one or they believed the RH hype. DL getting typically good and unfussy ride from Dobbs to control the race at a usable pace on the rail. A solid effort int he last 2f, perhaps some rail bias assistance, and staying on ok. Not showing anything different and an 80+ one say who might develop over 6-7f. Check what the quotes say afterwards about future plans. Russian Heroine a small chunky one and not looking better class on debut and just a Maiden winner type. Out early for Stoute because she if would be worth so mush and be so important for Cheveley Park to have a 'Black Type' daughter of Russian Rhythm. Get RH out early as she is small and let Michael and Ryan try to blag a weak Listed or something. Moore took the decision early to go to the rail to use that bias if it was there. That proved a problem with Dobbs running the rail at a usable pace and meant RH had to switch out of a pocket on the rail to try to make her effort. That perhaps cost her a length but just and ordinary effort once out and not seeing out the 5f. Will win he rmaiden but shown nothing in two runs to suggest there is much more there. In trying to learn whether watching Breeze Videos is useful pre-race then you would say that Blue Aegean did most of she did int he video in the race. A good break and racing away from the rail. For the first half of the race she seems to be racing head up and with a high action in front. Hard to judge whether that is her fighting being held. As the angle becomes more side-on it looks like she is doing the same 'bounding' in her 'slower' paces that she showed on the VT. Coming to 2F out the jk (Buick with Barzalona apparently benched by Godolphin/Appleby) asks for a n effort. As in the Breeze she goes immediately and has close up to the lead by 2F out, The jk then takes a pull instead of just letting her go and show if she can produce the 1F+ blast of the breeze. When the jk asks for her effort again-1.5f the immdeiate kick isn't there and DL is also into full stride and BA dueld with her but gets tired sooner (showing the same Speed Wobble in the process). Ok debut and does she need to level up to stop that bounding. Has more to show if they use her effort in a single blast. Zuzinia this year's small one for Channon and not a definite Open Maiden winner on PRev. Held up here and a low 70s sort of effort in the last 2f before tiring. Aevalon interesting because she is taller than the winner and has some pace. Ran much too free attending the pace here and has some scope to develop although narow bodied. Looking Good talked by Brown in 214 but Blowing Smoke to the Qataris paying the bills seems to cloud what might be real signals from Smoke. LG too green here to run a race. Slow start and hanging wide. Getting unbalanced and losing ground every time she looked like she might be getting into the race. Check presentation STO. |
