G as on decs. Inner HS in use. Strong to Stiff Westerly Wind = 3/4 Headwind from the Left. === Pre Race === Yearling video for Miss Pimpernel showing an entirely untypical 'Clodovil'. Not grey & not a taller, slightly narrow and fizzy attitiude. Bay, small, and tending towards a bulky sprinter look. Hills in 215 (= Taplins 2yos of 215) saying she has done well but is 'close coupled' and will be "alright later on over 7f." Which seems a mix of size & type. Doesn't look that close coupled in the video but a positive for a balanced walk including range behind. 6f start would fit with a slower cadence & some range mover but has she grown? An unpromising quote from Barry Hills in 215 wrt Basma which makes her sound small and limited. 'Neat little filly', 'quite sharp' etc and expected her to be an early type running in May. If she lacks size and the pedigree is 'so what' then why €325k as a yearling? Hills' quote from his website weekly blog = "Miss Pimpernel and Elronaq are working very nicely and are well up the two year old pecking order."' === Post Race === 0.83s slower than first Div and that looked to be a slower pace here and a different Race Shape. Haley Bop (looking 70ish neat) leading on sufferance with head to right setting a slower pace. Taken over to Stands Rails by Jk after 2f and field race Stands Strip and not centre track as in Div 1. Slow looking 4th 1f and barely a 2f sprint tacked on at the end. Race lacking the mass fading of the first Div and the main gap here caused by the leading pair pulling clear and putting 3L+ into HB and the others who finished in a heap. Futoon a similar sze to Ring Of Truth but deeper & stronger front. Solid effort by RoT to make ground back to win against a solid opponent given the race shape. Basma ridden by Dane O'Neill but given a Spencer/Hanagan non-involving ride and has the Hamdan set-up decided oer the last few years that 'Educ Intros' are required? Basma still 9th into the last 1.5f and hanging left to centre track. Obvious 'eyecatcher' in then picking up ok in the last 0.5f+ to make ground and places. [June 14th] Miss Pimpernel another Spencer ridden debut for Charlie Hills this season which were never put intot he race. This one not as bad as some and how much of that MP travelling well? Rear atthe start and a typical 'flop break' for Spencer to leave MP at the rear and then racing widest out on the track as the field collapsed ontot he stands rail. MP seeming to be travelling well around 2f out and Spencer able to wait to ask for the final effort. MP making and ok effort when asked and probably hampered by being widest out in centre track. Tiring in last 0.5f. MP looking 1-2 sizes bigger than Lady Wulfuna (won a weak seller since) as she goes past her but perhaps a bit less size than Basma (ok 2nd in a big field maiden STO as fav). MP still looking a smaller to smaller medium one, deep and strong but Ip body length on less. Does use her range in front. Also interesting to watch Spencer riding Miss Pimpernel with the silk cap half loose as he leaves the stalls. Just before halfway Frank reaches up and seems to remove the cap from being entangled in his goggles strap. Doesn't appear to throw the cap away. Did he take time to tuck it somewhere to bring it home? Not concentrating on what is going on in the race while doing it. |
