=== Pre Race ===

Fahey quote = "We’ve two in the Maiden Stakes. I’d be surprised if Back To Bond could win a race as competitive as this on debut but is ready to run. I was pleased enough with Another Touch’s first effort here. Given a little improvement for the experience he could be knocking on the door.".

=== Post Race ===

Another 'good' result in a day with 3 x likeable maidens to this point. All with horses who can progress further. Age Of Empire a completely different horse to debut in being fit enough and very professional and knowing. Given a 'Dobbs' type uncomplicated ride by Queally and letting the horse get on with it if things are under control. Which they were and the most striking point abour AOE's performance was how smooth and balanced he looked. Travelling straight as field raced in mid-track and in a very clean, efficient rhythm. Nothing wasted. Queally able to sit still until into the last 2f with the others creaking and breaking behind him. AOE even seeming to be able to find a bit of a kick in the last 1f when already clear. Like a mediumly wealthy man's 'Limato' to watch with Queally looking a bit like jk Lee in the Redcar Trophy. That on the day Limato suffered his first defeat and a question which never got asked was whether Limato's lack of power and scope is catching up with as the Weight-For-Age stagger unwinds. AOE not the biggest in the field but another whose movement will see him compete better at higher level (Gp3?).

Tawakkol still sloppy including a slow start and a slow learner. Held a bit off a usable pace and a solid effort to get to a clear 2nd before fading back in the last 0.5f, 80ish and setting a level. Another Touch coming from the same YORK maiden as Tawakkol LTO and despite the usual 'what a good race' gushery after that if felt a bit suspect. Ok at the front (80-82) but tailing off. The defeats here meaning that the 2nd, 4th, 6th & 8th from that race have been beaten in maidens in the last few days. AT a mediuam and ok strong one in the field. Ran a bit too free before halfway then dropped back to 3R briefly. Hard driven 2f out and lacking pace compared to the average on the day. Hamped around 1f out and droped right back after that, but, the hampering caused by AT not able to go fast enough and the 'gaps going faster' than he was. Prob 7f and lesser test?

Galileo Gold looking well bought at €33k and trainer Palmer very upbeat about him in 215. GG a bigger one in the field and strong enough. Upright front and come across as more of a 7f+ galloper and able to run ok at 6f through size rather than basic pace. Ran too free for 1f+ then settled completely in 2R. Going fine at 2f+ out and had some trouble finding a gap to move forward (gave AT the final nudge that made him fold entirely). Lacking pace of AOE (& poss of Tawakkol) but staying on well in last 1f. Looks ok for 80+ and improve over 7f and development.

Champagne City another solid sized, usable, 2yo for MaJo in a season where he as 120+ juveniles. Out of an old dam who seemed to have stopped producing around 2008. Produced 7f+ 2yos and middle distance devt types back in the day. CC a taller but narrower one in this field (different to AOE for example). Like a narrower version of GG. Ran up with the pace to past halfway but always having to work a bit to do it and outpaced 2f out. Looking and moving like a 7f+ galloper at that point. Fine for 75 in a Northern maiden over 7f+.
