GF as on Decs despite rain on Sunday. Stiff+ SSW Wind = Direct Tailwind. === Pre Race === Blacklister not bought to be an 'early 2yo' but Channon in 215 saying he had been going well and could run at 5f but more a 6-7f type. 2 x Work Videos on the Channon website with the first from 10th April. 6 x unraced 2yos lead by older Clock Off. 2yos Grouped up initially but getting ragged by the finish but Blacklister going best or joint best and finishing behind the lead horse with the rider inactive and going comfortably. Blacklister the first from that group to run. On May 22nd in a trio of 2yos lead by OR80 older horse Harlequin Striker. Other pair of 2yos have not run. This a 6f (previous one 5f) and a stiffer test. Blacklister starts in behind then asked to pull out and progress in the last 1f. Has to work quite hard but gets to the lead of the 3 x 2yos by 0.5L. Looking medium height and chunky build. Jack Carter the first runner on 2015 for Tompkins. Never targetted 2yo racing much and in last 5-6 seasons record has declined and if he manages a single win in a season its 'good'. Pictures of JC on the Tompkins' website (which must rank as the the most voluminous and most regularly updated and woth checking) make him look a bigger one if a touch narrow and perhaps angular. The type that should be ok STO just on size? (check) Breeze Video for Red Hot Chilly showing what you moght expect from Tuite in being smaller to smaller but usable. Lacking depth and a bit light behind and weakish neck. But uncomplicated action and rolls along fine for his size with a mdium speed action. Runs straight and finds a bit late on after changing leads. Smaller and underpowered but should be able to make the best of himself within that. Need a size check but late 50s to 60? Perhaps 7f. === Post Race === Immediate post race after ATR, as usual, did everything in their power NOT to show any of the horses prior to the off. Adverts, interview a jk from an Irish race for ages, brief shot of Palawan being loaded then quickly cut away to show a static shot of the Betting Market. Might take a generation before the Racing TV providers ever get their heads around what 'providing useful information' to the audience really entails. Blacklister looking a touch short in the group but strongly enough made, especially in front. Held at the back off the pace but enough pace in the race to make progress in the last 2f. Duelling with Illegally Blonde in the last 1f and heading her late on and going to win then pricked his ears, slowed down and allowed IB to re-pass him on the line. Jack Carter standing up the belief he would look a big one in this group and running well including leading at a pace to stretch others. |
