SUMMARY
G from GGS on Decs.

Rail = "Inner of straight dolled out 4yds at 6f and 2yds at the winning line.".

Light to Medium SW Wind. 1/2 Tailwind from Right HS & 3/4 Tailwind to the Intersection.

James Millman tweets before race (abt 15mins) said Jk Durcan first choice for yard in 2015 = Durcan on Handytalk & Atzeni on Concur = Update Profile input. JM also said he had napped Handytalk while working on William Hill Radio (in Leeds where he is at Uni) on the day. Also said both would improve for the run and did not know why Concur had been supported earlier in the day.

=== Post Race ==

See what the Pictures bring but first response to the Race was it was a bit thin in an Edition lacking strong Hannon, Channon or Hills reps. Raj To Riches looking fittest, good coat and on toes in the prelims. Ran like he knew what to do and put others under pressure. But, looked a 'now' ready one lacking scope and even 70+ really? Handytalk the more balanced type of the Millman pair and 4L back in 4th at Halfway and a solid effort to get up on the line and ok 75 and see if any better. Concur looking a peculiar set-up in the VRev as very Deep and Strong front but much lighter behind (bit line a cut-n-shut job). Also compact. Beaverbrook also a short one and very strongly built but clueless in the race and another beaten Debut favourite after MaJo had 3 x FTOs on Day 1 of the season. Beaverbrook presume ok 75 but hard to warm much to the others. Fit looking small, week legged & trudged around the PRing looking down attitude. Ran ok given that until fading early but a limited one. Owner Wood interviewed before the race and clearly not expecting much in a race she has won with FTO Zebedee & Magical Roundabout. Her phrase being ".. she has shown up ok and is ready for a run.". Something low level at BATH or BTON STO perhaps.

Rod Millman interviewed after the race and said Ted Durcan had been down to ride some of the 8 x 2yos he has broken in and put them through the stalls. Which meant Durcan was given the choice. Millman saying he would still use Atzeni when he could but that Jk now unable to make the trip down to the Millman yard given his Qatari committments.

=== Post Full VRev ===

2 Initial points = that the Pace was too quick overall with the fizzy Raj To Riches upping the pace around halway and stretching the field out to produce a 'broken' race. First 3 through Halfway all gone at some point in the last 1f and folding back. Which allowed staying on 4th thr Hf Handytalk to plug on to lead on the line and a couple of other depper closers behind in Port Gaverne and the entirely clueless Beaverbrook.

The second point, including the picture evidence, is that it was a thin field and perhaps two involved who can rate around 75 but the others all looking real sub 70.

Jk Durcan on Handytalk spent a lot of the 1st 1f not attending to what the race was doing and instead getting his horse settled on the rail. This meant he found himself 'midfield' and would not have been able to get the ground back with some mix of a more Efficient Pacing of the race and real 70+ opponents loose-on-the-lead. The race playing well for how he rode the race. Handytalk not looking a full OR75 but will presuambly rate around there so leave it as an 'early 75' and see how he develops. Green at points in the race and not finding a real kick to wear RTR down. Instead, plugging on looking a slight galloper and the only one of the field still going forward at the line. Durcan said Handytalk would stay 6f "standing on his head" which seemed ok. Difficult for him as a winner until the nurseries begin. Presumably will be tried in better races (say up to Listed level) but doesn't seem a strong candidate for that. Will need to find a below average competitive race to win STO before July.

Trainer Evans normally starts a large set of his 2yos in the first 1-2 weeks of the season and the better ones can compete well FTO and some win. Raj To Riches entered for two of the races on March 28th but only the 2nd runner for Evans this year for some reason. Given the extra time you would expect the Evans' 2yos to be wired fit by now. RTR looking that part in the Prelims and notably fit (leaner frame assists view), good coat and dancing around in the prelims. As Jk Kirby said RTR "knew his job" in the race and took the field along. Kirby did not seem to do enough to curb RTR's enthusiasm and he seemed to go too fast mid-race and faded int he last 0.5f having not founf much of a kick 2f out. Fitness, and lack of knowing opponents, enabled him to almost hang on but caught by the slightly bigger all round Handytalk. The core of the problem being that he was a disappointing physical type and not even looking an 'early 75' like Handytalk. Say a 67-70 type and needs to win early.

Atlecchino's Rock doesn't have a 5f early pedigree but does have a small, compact & ready physical type with some build positive. Made the best job of chasing RTR and looking willing and usable. Say a 65 and should find something to win and make the most of what size he has.

There is a Masters Project paper to be written about how the preparation MaJo gives to his 2yos before debut interacts with their personality, physical type, etc to produce results which are all-over-the-place. Beaverbrook the 11th debut of the year for MaJo which has seen 4 x debut wins (helped by circumstances) and the other 7 all looking green to clueless. Both MaJo's debuts on the day the bulkiest & strongest 2yos in their fields but both lacking the nous to use that advantage and giving us the typical rolling-around-like-a-boat end of MaJo's FTOs. Beaverbrook another without a 5f early debut pedigree although looking a compact sprinter type physically. A bit lighter behind but seems to have ok range in movement behind. Ok effort to make ground back after halfway, assisted by the Race Pace & Shape but not looking a 5f speedster. Say a 75 at 6f and check that.

Port Gaverne presumably bought on spec by Tregoning and still owned by him. Not Put into the Race (NPIR) and the Jk trying to give his a 'Quiet Intro' but finding the front of the race coming back to meet him which doesn't help that. Some mild plugging on for tender riding before the fade. BBut, a small one and limited by that. Even 60?

Fit a classic example of 'Market Respect' trumping cold facts. Tell yourself the Hannons "always win the first at WDSR" and have won this race 5 of the last 7 years inncluding for owner Julie Wood and she is a short favourite in the am. That corrected itself a little in the pre-race Market but still went off the 3/1 2nd fav. Given how small, underpowered and unready mentally she looked that was just the wrong price, even in this group. Ran a bit better than expect showing some minor pace before the fade and some excuse for hanging left. But, seems a lesser one and say around 60 and the Hannons will try to win something weak early at BATH/BTON say.

Concur 'backed' in the am apparently (wonder whether it takes more tha £50 to get a rumour like that rolling) and the wrong knowledge of Atzeni being the first choice probably assisting that. A different physical type to Handytalk and a short one who looks ok strong in front but not balanced to that behind. A bit too compact and moves below average at the walk. Seemed to get outpaced in mid-race and movement suspect. On this evidence a plain less able runner than Handytalk despite Millman's quote about "both nice horses and wouldn't be surprised if either won, or both got beat, they will come on for a run". Concur clearly has to 'metamorphose' (Shape & Shifting) rathe than come-on-a-bit. Low 60s?

Zeeoneandonly hard to judge and less ready and knowing by miles than 1st string RTR. Check if there is any usable 60s in there when more ready. Got adrift here and part through hanging left and possibly a bit through not wanting to run with the others (green or attitude?).
