GGF from G on Decs. Rails fully in. Stiff- Westerly Wind = 1/2 headwind in the HS. === Pre Race === Fahey SL quote = "Jeanie’s Place is our only runner at Epsom on Saturday in the Woodcote Stakes. She’s drawn wider than I’d like in nine - I think you want to be in three to six for this race. She is a smart filly though, I do like her, and it will be interesting to see how she goes.". === Post Race === Average Pace overall and pace settled mid race which allowed Buratino to get the ground back from a slower start by making ground wide. Buratino in the leading line at 2f out and producing, and maintaining the strong kick he started to sjow in the National Stakes LTO. Handled the course well. Aleko failing to handle the track at all and MaJo expecting as much in interview before race. But said Aleko had shown him unusual speed for a 'big horse' so was worth a chance here. Said he wouldn't choose between his two horses because Aleko might be staying on best at the finish (which he didn't and the race lacking that regular 'character' of the big one that flounders around then stems home in the last 1f to finish 3rd/4th (depending upon the EW position). Buratino pulling clear and seeming to be partly down to a below average field on quality in Profile. Nelspruit looking the lower end of the type the Hannons bring to this race and hard to see why he would go to Royal Ascot, for example, other than a 'Social' run. Nelspruit finishing with precocious fillies lacking scope although Just Emma stronger built than expected. But, it looked an improved performance from Buratino whi is strengthening up well. Looks ok for a 3rd-5th Coventry type depending upon race quality. |
