GF from GFG on Decs. Watering stopped on Weds. Only 10DegC and a Stiff- NW Wind = 1/4+ Tailwind. === Pre Race === [Note from June 1st when GS first declared but an NR] = Breeze Video for Griffin Street suggesting GS neatly made but probably too small, Dinky or Toy? Shows only a medium cadence despite the short legs, etc. Goes straight but slower time probably. Too small? Trainer Barron written up as a man to follow with 2yos in 2015 after terrific seasons 2013-14. Mixed start to those two seasons with early runners in 2013 season maidens and the better types starting out from later May. In 2014 he started off with 3 x above 75 types in April and perhaps just whether he has the right types or not. Now into mid June and so far his record is 4 x debut runs that have been 5th at best. Looking a mix of not ready and not the better & readier types he had in 2014 early. Koothrappali the first STO looking a fast action sprinter and green on debut. Just a medium size and perhaps a touch narrow and needing to strengthen. But gave the impression of having good basic pace and fast 5f on GF fine for him. Say around 70 on size and vulnerable to stronger 2yos but should set a standard here. Also worth checking whether the Barron stable is coming into better form and whether a strong debut might be 'due'. === Post Race === Solid pace set by Zoraida on the rail. Faster time but fast copnditions with a Tailwind. Muhadathat not standing out for size but perhaps a little taller and rangier than a smaller medium field otherwise. Settled here unlike debut and a solid effort, or a bit better to pull clear in the last 1f. Movement quality making her a bit better than size (something breeze timing can probably find). Late 70s and end up with an OR80? 2nd & 3rd home seem reasonable marker types with Koothrappali settling fine in 2nd but lacking the pace to go with the winner giving her weight. Seems ok for OR67-70 range. Zoraida smaller again then either of first 2 and low 60s perhaps, at best. Just A Grove looking smaller type and perhaps smaller than Zoraida, say. But, a flat effort even given that. Not picking up in the last 2f from 2R on the rail and presume some issue as she ought to be usable 50s at least. Griffin Street small as expected and did not seem to be able to, or knowing enough, to go forward in the last 2f. But a compact ready 5f type and size limited and limited interest. Secret Clause a solid size in the group but not moving like a sprinter and action a bit ragged in front. Going a bit free early but his action issues and medium cadence meaning he couldn't pick up 2f out in a fast & flat 5f here. . |
